Guest House Tokiwa offers dorm beds and affordable Japanese-style private rooms, free WiFi, a shared lounge and a shared kitchen. Located in Fujinomiya City, the closest town to Mt. There were several good things about the stay. One was definitely the location of the guest house and Disuke, the owner who was very helpful. However the delight was their Cute little dog, Daruma. Loved him. The way you can experience Japanese living in a traditional house with Morden aminities. The movie nights and the morning trips arranged by them were awesome.

Worth a visit just for the Mt Fuji World Heritage Centre. But the nearby world heritage sites are not accessible by public transport. Unless you join the tour during weekends or you drive, you can't visit them. Too bad

The main thing for a visitor to Fujinomiya are the imposing and ever changing views of Mount Fuji. It is a truly beautiful mountain. There are many other things to see in this friendly town, though, including amazing waterfalls and really interesting shrines. The costs are far lower the big cities. I used a bicycle provided by the guest house and that was fine for getting around the town.
There isn't a lot actually in Fujinomiya but you can get the bus to Shiraito Falls and Lake Tanuki both of which I recommend as they were beautiful. The lake has good views of Fuji but there is very little here so take food with you. You can also get the bus to Fujikawaguchiko which takes, from memory about an hour. I think this would definitely be worth it but I didn't do it because it was golden week and the extra traffic meant the journey time was significantly longer. If you stay at Guest House Tokiwa, they do a free trip to station 5 on Fuji which is well worth it.
Quaint little town. Some beautiful sights apart from Mount Fuji. It wou id be worthwhile spending a few days exploring. The bus tickets to the 5th station of Fuji and back are ¥3100 so put that in your budget.
It is a compact quiet town that is easy to walk around. It has restaurants and a shopping mall. The temple and surrounding area are picturesque with a great view of Mt Fuji. The locals are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay here.

5 minutewalk from the train station and the station is also where the bus departs for Mt.Fuji. Good and friendly staff, included a voucher at the time of our stay for drink and trip to the toilet at their Mt.Fuji station and also a special memory of your ascent. Uniquely designed guesthouse. Fast Wi-Fi and great amenities. The soba nudel place across the street is a must visit even for a rice person.

The couple who own this property are some of the friendliest and most hospitable you could meet. With not much idea of what to do in Fujinomiya, they took me out for the day to Shiraitonotaki, Lake Tanukiko and took me so sample some kf the local specialties. They made me feel like family and for the price it was fantastic
