Overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, Grand Prince Hotel is located a 15-minute drive from central Hiroshima. The hotel offers 5 dining options, a outdoor pool (only summer) and hot spring baths. The view from the property is incredible and you can’ enjoy all directions from the room, restaurant, sky lounge, cafe, everywhere. It is a bit away from the center of the city but they have a free shuttle bus every 30 min or hour to Hiroshima station which was so convenient. If you plan on going to Miyajima, the high speed boat station is right front of the hotel, otherwise you have to travel to Miyajimakou ferry station which is 2 trains & 50 min away from the hotel, and then take the ferry. The room was clean and again, the view was beautiful. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They are the mirror of what hospitality is about. The breakfast buffet at the sky lounge (top floor lounge) was so good and I couldn’t wait to go get breakfast every morning! And again, the view from the sky lounge is stunning.

Everyone in the world should go to the Peace Museum. It's such an emotional and raw journey that lets people experience exactly what happened on that fateful day with the last words of those who perished and haunting stories of humanistic survival after a major nuclear disaster. There are plenty of things to go see aside from the bomb/memorials (though you should definitely go see them), but the most important thing is to just soak in the culture - Hiroshima isn't as big of a tourist destination as Osaka/Tokyo and you can find a lot more local cuisine/customs/attractions that aren't as "touristy" Getting around is easy with public transport, but we did find ourselves walking a lot. We wouldn't avoid anything, and we loved the Italian restaurant along the peace park!
It's a modern city with mainly a historical significance but not that much to see/do in the city itself. There is the museum, a couple of remaining buildings, a city park and the castle. If you go out of town, by train within a 30' distance and a 10' boat, there is the Miyajima island with a shrine and deers walking free around you (like Nara). In short, if it's out of your route maybe it's not worthy to deviate, otherwise a weekend stop is enough. If you are into history, a volunteer guide told me that Hiroshima's gov is quite conservative and they don' depict much of the shocking truth of the bombing, while in Nagasaki they do. So, maybe Nagasaki is a better destination from historical visit-point of view.
Hiroshima is not really a city, it is a big country town that has morphed into a city. The downtown area is compact and essentially surrounds the main centre street Hondori. The nightlife area is centred around 2 main streets at the end of Hondori. It is a pleasant, friendly place that people visit for obvious reasons. A 2-3 day trip would most likely allow you to explore the city Miyajima - the UNESCO WHS island around 30 min train journey from the main station. There are a couple of small art museums on the centre as well as the Peace Park Museums. It is a very easy city to cycle around - although in truth you could walk most of it.
Hiroshima sadly was the location for the use of the first atomic bomb so to see the Atomic Bomb Dome which was one of the only buildings to survive in any condition near to the hypocentre of the blast was amazing and to find the spot of the actual hypocentre of the blast was incredibly thought provoking and for the poor people who were vapourised instantaneously when simply going about their daily business at 08:15 on the 8th August 1945 is quite terrible, irrespective of your thoughts for or against. The layout of the museum in Peace Park was well organised and through pictures and artifacts really brings home the effect the bomb had on the people in Hiroshima on that day and those that survived. Copies of the official documents from the British and US governments at the time giving the go ahead for the dropping of the bomb is also very interesting along with the process of the approval for the creation the Manhattan Project which led to the development of the bomb and the huge costs involved. In the grounds of the castle you can also see trees that are still growing after they survived the blast. Nature always finds a way. Overall, a great, very sad, emotional and thought provoking experience.
Hiroshima is a great place, clean, modern and ancient at the same time, with some of the kindest people I've ever met. Truly a place dedicated to peace, forgiveness and resilience. A must-go place for all people.
We love Hiroshima and have been there many times. Peace Park is lovely to stroll around and the Peace Memorial Museum is very moving. The world-heritage site at Miyajima is easy to get to. Lots of shopping and great places to eat and drink.
Staff and location were superb. Stay and room were extremely comfortable. Our start was too short of a visit as there is more to do in Hiroshima. Great bed, shower, quick elevator, free laundry machine, robe and slippers.to really make yourself at home. The view was incredible as we got to see the peace memorial from our window. Our hotel kept our luggage so we could enjoy the sites after check out. Nice touch to end our stay.
Fairly sizeable room for your standard Japanese hotels. Hotel was in an excellent location, only a short 10 minute walk from Hiroshima station and even closer to a variety of malls and shopping areas. Peace Memorial Park and the bomb dome were a short walk away also. Mister Donut 1 block over and a Family Mark next door were super convenient. Staff were very helpful and spoke english very well.
The location was terrific, just a few minutes from the station. The hotel is rather small but that was expected. The room is your typical Japanese hotel room size. You have your basic amenities provided. The staff was really nice. If I was to return to Hiroshima for a short stay, I would consider this hotel again.
Hiroshima
Best hotel, down stairs convenience store for beer nd food , right in of the hotel tram stop for Hiroshima station ( 4 minutes ride). Good facility so far in Japan .In cube, i had small fan , light nd soft blanket... can't ask more for this much amount of money. Worth while..
100 metres from Hiroshima Station Easy to find close to Train Tram and bus terminal huge choice of local places to eat. The property is large has been renovated with modern appliances air con etc very good after staying in typical Japanese 12 to 15 sq metre hotels for two weeks.
The hotel is very close to Hiroshima station. It is new and very clean. The rooms are bigger than the average Japanese hotel and their bathrooms are phenomenal. Upon arrival, they offered tea and coffee and gave us face masks. What more could us girls ask for? :o)
The location was great, within walking distance of Hiroshima Castle, Peace memorial, shukkeien gardens. Room was a good size and really comfortable and the breakfast buffet was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel was clean and just enough space for the 3 of us. It was also very near on streetcar station so I found it very convenient. Plus major tourist spot in hiroshima can be reach by foot so will it save you some money.
My family and i loooooooove the hotel so much! We regret staying here for just 1 night. The interior was sleek, rooms are clean, staff are very helpful and accommodating. This is a highly recommended hotel in Hiroshima.
Perfect location, comfortable room (big enough space, smooth air conditioning), perfect breakfast buffet (Japanese and Western style food available) Hotel Covid 19 restrictions are well managed! Highly recomended!
It was great to step off the train into the hotel. It was also very convenient for the hop on and off See Hiroshima free bus that departs from the station car park. Great view from the bar.
Great facilities and great staff who helped you for whatever you needed. The free shuttle bus is great as the hotel is about 30 mins away from the Hiroshima station
The location was perfect. only 5-10 min walk from hiroshima station. The hotel was so clean and its breakfast had both japanese and international options.
Good hotel, very convenient location near Hiroshima station. Also provided free smartphone with WiFi for use during our stay which was great.
Very good hotel. Modern, clean and comfortable rooms. Free coffee, tea and breakfast. Good location in the center of Hiroshima.
