Everyone in the world should go to the Peace Museum. It's such an emotional and raw journey that lets people experience exactly what happened on that fateful day with the last words of those who perished and haunting stories of humanistic survival after a major nuclear disaster. There are plenty of things to go see aside from the bomb/memorials (though you should definitely go see them), but the most important thing is to just soak in the culture - Hiroshima isn't as big of a tourist destination as Osaka/Tokyo and you can find a lot more local cuisine/customs/attractions that aren't as "touristy" Getting around is easy with public transport, but we did find ourselves walking a lot. We wouldn't avoid anything, and we loved the Italian restaurant along the peace park!
It's a modern city with mainly a historical significance but not that much to see/do in the city itself. There is the museum, a couple of remaining buildings, a city park and the castle. If you go out of town, by train within a 30' distance and a 10' boat, there is the Miyajima island with a shrine and deers walking free around you (like Nara). In short, if it's out of your route maybe it's not worthy to deviate, otherwise a weekend stop is enough. If you are into history, a volunteer guide told me that Hiroshima's gov is quite conservative and they don' depict much of the shocking truth of the bombing, while in Nagasaki they do. So, maybe Nagasaki is a better destination from historical visit-point of view.
Hiroshima is not really a city, it is a big country town that has morphed into a city. The downtown area is compact and essentially surrounds the main centre street Hondori. The nightlife area is centred around 2 main streets at the end of Hondori. It is a pleasant, friendly place that people visit for obvious reasons. A 2-3 day trip would most likely allow you to explore the city Miyajima - the UNESCO WHS island around 30 min train journey from the main station. There are a couple of small art museums on the centre as well as the Peace Park Museums. It is a very easy city to cycle around - although in truth you could walk most of it.
Hiroshima sadly was the location for the use of the first atomic bomb so to see the Atomic Bomb Dome which was one of the only buildings to survive in any condition near to the hypocentre of the blast was amazing and to find the spot of the actual hypocentre of the blast was incredibly thought provoking and for the poor people who were vapourised instantaneously when simply going about their daily business at 08:15 on the 8th August 1945 is quite terrible, irrespective of your thoughts for or against. The layout of the museum in Peace Park was well organised and through pictures and artifacts really brings home the effect the bomb had on the people in Hiroshima on that day and those that survived. Copies of the official documents from the British and US governments at the time giving the go ahead for the dropping of the bomb is also very interesting along with the process of the approval for the creation the Manhattan Project which led to the development of the bomb and the huge costs involved. In the grounds of the castle you can also see trees that are still growing after they survived the blast. Nature always finds a way. Overall, a great, very sad, emotional and thought provoking experience.
Hiroshima is a great place, clean, modern and ancient at the same time, with some of the kindest people I've ever met. Truly a place dedicated to peace, forgiveness and resilience. A must-go place for all people.
We love Hiroshima and have been there many times. Peace Park is lovely to stroll around and the Peace Memorial Museum is very moving. The world-heritage site at Miyajima is easy to get to. Lots of shopping and great places to eat and drink.
This is located quite centrally in Hiroshima. We were able to walk to many local restaurants as well as the Hiroshima Peace Park. The streetcars were also right outside. The reception staff were super helpful, we had wanted to send our luggage to our next hotel in Osaka, the staff were able to call our next hotel and set everything up for us. They also provide a little bag of goodies for your stay which includes face masks, lotion, etc for females. We had quite a spacious room (for Japan) as we got the queen size bed.
The hotel is located in the center of the city walking distance from all visiting points. A ton of restaurants and shops are nearby. The cab ride from the train is 5-10min. We paid about $10 for it. The hotel has its own restaurants but there are multiple options for any meal you wish to have outside. We went to a French cafe nearby. Our room had a bay view of the city with the temple and the art museum right in front of us. Excellent views at night. I highly recommend it to anyone who visits Hiroshima.
View from the reception area and rooms on upper floors is stunning. Whole hotel is lovely design, very modern. Very good price considering the quality of hotel. Great location - 10 min walk to Hiroshima station and 5 mins away from busy shopping/bars/restaurant area. Room was well-equipped, clean and very comfortable. Beautiful bathroom with an outside bath on a balcony - a lovely relaxing treat. Staff were amazing - they upgraded us to a 14th floor, larger room because it was our honeymoon.
Room is quite spacious for a family of four with two boys. It is just a short distance from the Hiroshima Station. There are a few restaurants at the ground and second floor. We like the udon shop for something simple and nice. Took a hike to the old shrine and Buddha Stupa at the back of the hotel for an excellent view of Hiroshima. Also took a walk along at the beautiful riverside promenade.
Location is around 15-20 minutes by walking from Hiroshima Station. In a quiet neighborhood with a nice view of the river. A convenience store is just 2 minutes away, and Shukkei-en is 10 minutes on foot. The room is bigger than average with a comfortable bed. It is exceptional that the hotel provides amenities for kids (toothbrushes, toothpaste, slippers).
I missed the last SuperJet to Matsuyama so had to stay overnight in Hiroshima, which was not planned. I was lucky that my favorite hotel had a room available on short notice, booked through Booking.com. The staff recognized me right away and welcomed me back like a friend!
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Easy to find but a little confusing getting in as it was apart of a larger complex. Wifi was decent. Hiroshima Peace park was only 10 minutes walk away.
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Easy walking distance to the Hiroshima Peace Museum, the team and a number of restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!
amazing view from room 😍 enjoy playing in the beach is just in front of the hotel I think to stay again in this hotel if back to Hiroshima again 😃
Clean rooms with modern features and public bath was amazing. The hotel was very close to Hiroshima Station and convenient to area attractions
The location was good, there's a free shuttle bus for tourist. From hiroshima Station to the hotel
Well run - boutique ‘style’ hotel in a great location of Hiroshima: clean, comfortable and stylish.
This is probably the tallest hotel tower in Hiroshima. The view from my room was amazing.
The best hotel in Hiroshima!
One the best budget stays I had in Japan. Rooms were very clean and quiet, so were showers. The lounge was huge and there's enough space for even bigger gatherings. I was allowed to use the whole kitchen without any problems, and a coffee machine was just a small, but very lovely bonus. The hostel itself is just around 10 minutes of walk from the Atomic Dome or Hiroshima Bus Station, from where you can easily travel to Fukuoka and other cities The Hiroshima Port is just 20 minutes of the tram ride.
The location, very convenient as it is in the train station in the city center
Get a corner room - with the jacuzzi bath and the view!
Breakfast was very good and the staff were lovely.
