Holbox is always a good option when you want to take a break and escape. I hadn't gone in a few years and the expansion & growth was jaw-dropping, but also not a surprise because of how popular it has become. Right now its the season of Whale Sharks (you can take tours to go snorkel with them), and along with them come the bioluminescence! I would definetly recommend to book a tour for this, because the locals know where to go. We walked the beach ourselves at night but you have to go quite far to find a spot totally dark and away from any of the lights around the island and only saw a little bit. Definitely rent a bicycle or golf cart in order to explore the island, the beaches are definitely worth exploring.
Beautiful island with unique vibe, great restaurants, unique animals, beautiful sunsets. From the fairy you should take a taxi to your hotel as the roads may be full of water. We came for 2 nights and stayed in a bonglow beach front (not recommended due to the insects that falling from the roof) and ate mostly in vegetarian restaurants (ArtiSano and Pineapol are very recommended). The prices in those restaurants were reasonable. The roads are made from sand and full of water when its raining so be ready to get your feets wet or try to visit when there is a good weather. Non beach front hotels are more cheaper and probably have less bugs then a bonglow rooms for example. Be sure to bring enough money in advance. Keep the island clean to preserve the nature.
It's a beautiful island with really good food and drinks and a wonderful sunset. It's perfect to chill, disconnect and enjoy the beautiful beaches. It's better to arrive with a backpack because it's all sand, it doesn't have asphalt, there are taxis, which are golf carts and you can also rent them or a bike. Recommend to bring money in cash (mexican pesos) because it has only 2 ATMs and both weren't working at one day and lots of places are cash only.
If you spend majority of time on the beaches and in the lagoons it's stunning and great. Inland is a giant building site and it's very expensive for Mexico in bars and restaurants. The street food near the basketball courts at night are a great cheap dinner and beer from the shop keeps costs down. I would not recommend the 3 Isles boat trip in the afternoon. A lot of time travelling between the islands and not a great deal of wildlife. I found the golf buggy taxi service fun but pricey. My hotel rented bikes which sounds nice but in 32 degree heating is quite hard work! Would definitely splurge and go beachfront next time and book way more ahead as prices surge when booking last minute.
Holbox beach is undoubtedly beautiful and colour of the water is unbelievable! It has an extremely chilled vibe, even the busy areas weren’t that lively - great if that’s what you want. Hard going on your feet walking around as the roads are kind of dirt roads, and the locals wet them at night and so can be like walking through clay - tough and get dirty. Personally I think very hard with young kids or anyone not able to walk well, especially in such a tropical climate. The main Centre is pretty small. 2 nights is enough in my view. Very shallow waters which are lovely to walk through but not amazing for swimming.
Where to start??? The Island is amazing! The best decision about our trip to Mexico was to visit Holbox. Firstly we stayed in Tulum Beach for a week and then we had 4 days in Holbox, but it was totally wrong decision. Tulum is so touristy and so price and everything is much worse! Restaurants in Holbox has a reasonable prices and the food is amazing! Also you will find a lot of cool bars and cafeterias! But if we talk about the beaches, then I am speechless! The water were crystal clear and light blue! The withe sandy beaches that are just so beautiful that you cannot leave Holbox! The island is so cool, they don't have cars, and people are so friendly! If I could choose only place in Mexico that I could visit then I would definitely go to Holbox!
This beautiful hotel is in an amazing location - it has direct access to the beach, but is also only a 5-10 minute walk from the center of the island with its restaurants and cafes. It's close enough to be convenient but far away enough to still feel private. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, making recommendations and working with us through some scheduling changes. The rooms were extremely clean and relaxing, and the hammocks on our balcony were a great place to unwind.
We have had an exceptional stay at the Mawimbi Hotel, it is without any doubt the most beautiful hotel on the island. Great location, breakfast was perfect and the staff is always available, very professional and welcoming ! Thank you for the thoughtful attentions when preparing our room as it was our honeymoon ! We will definitely hold Mawimbi Hotel close to our heart and memories of Holbox !
The architecture concept of the hotel is beautiful. It has all the commodities a 5 star hotel needs but preserves the beach “palapa” vibe of Mexico’s coast. Our room had a private pool where we could relax after a day enjoying the nice beach right outside the hotel. The staff was really nice (specially the waiters at the restaurant) and the food was always fresh (specially the ceviche!)
Our second stay in Holbox in this beautiful hotel which still embraces the original Holbox island vibe. We really loved this place and its amazing staff! The room was very spacious and we had two good nights in the comfy bed. The chilaquiles and piña smoothie at breakfast are delicious. At the bar you have an amazing sunset experience. Highly recommended!
Worst hotel I’ve stayed in. We left early, and couldn’t get the additional nights we weren’t not wanting to stay for refunded. Honestly horrible service on the Hotel and Booking.com We had to go to a different hotel just to use their WiFi bc no phones in room or any internet connection (this is not an island problem, we had no issues at other hotel)
beach front island hotel with great value for money. Rooms and other amenities at the hotel were always clean and tidy. staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. Especially at breakfast our waiter Thomas gladly adjusted breakfast to meet our dietary needs and he always greeted us with a smile and a friendly conversation.
Nice hotel a little bit off the main plaza. The stuff is extremely helpful. Hanzel made sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. He also gave us some great tips on restaurants and things to do around the island. The room is big and comfortable. There is a nice looking pool which we didn't end up using though.
Holbox Island
Cozy rooms is a hidden gem away from the busy and loud island centre. It's a really beautiful and peaceful place, and eventhough it doesn't have an own reception, I felt very well taken care of via What's App. Staff was amazingly helpful :-) Free coffee & water at the partner hotel was great!
The location on the beach is great - the hotel lounge and beach area is behind a grungy seawall, which blocks direct access to the water. It’s on the quieter side of the island, which is fantastic, within walking distance to the main strip. The staff were friendly and the rooms cleaned each day.
Holbox is an amazing island and this hotel is an amazing place, The owners are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are spatious and beautifully decorated and the hotel itself is like an 'Eden' inside Holbox where you can disconnect and relax. The nice pool is very welcome on warm days.
Hotel was in an excellent location. Rooms were very clean and air condition was perfect. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Overall I was very pleased with my choice. Very cheap for the island and most importantly the room was very safe to leave your belongings.
Very unique place! Reception is in open air and handled professionally quickly! Brilliant breakfast serving wide variety of food and even Mimosa’s! Romantic and boutique wooden floor rooms! Hotel has it’s sunbeds just in front of the beach, which is great!
Perfect tropical decor. Very green with the right amount of palms to provide separation & nice moments at the pool and grounds. Stellar staff. Perfect distance from town. Definitely the best small hotel I've ever stayed in Mexico.
Everything was perfect. The staff of the hotel is very nice. The room was beautiful, very comfortable and the breakfast very good! The hotel is very charming, certainly one of the best boutique hotel in Holbox!
Villa Tiburón is a really comfortable and on the beach hotel in Holbox Island.Great staff and service. I will come back.
fab boutique hotel - we loved our stay here. beach was super clean too.
We absolutely love this place!! They have an amazing breakfast too! View is the best, only mins from real flamingos - been 2 times, we saw about 80-100 flamingos in September and only 1 flamingo in January haha - really live this place!
The location away from other hotels.
