The staff was outstanding, super helpful & friendly during our whole stay. The location is simply paradise, it’s like a 20min walk from the center and that’s a good thing as the beach is much nicer and more quiet. The rooms are big with super comfortable beds and with very nice little details provided by the staff. Breakfast was also included and you had a good variety of options to choose from (it was also a great way to start your day by having breakfast with a breathtaking view). We cannot wait to come back!

The island is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to! If you are in the area, you should not miss it. Especially the walk on the bank of sands! I recommend A Mar Café for breakfast (perfect pancakes - waffels on the menu) and Arte Sano for lunch/ dinner (amazing vegan mexican food). Also don't forget to watch the sunset from the beach/ rooftop bar. They are extraordinary on Holbox!
Life on this island is remote and very cultural. As first there seems to not be much to do, but we were busy every day...sometimes just doing nothing. You will begin to notice all the beautiful, simple things about the island the longer you stay. I can change your whole opinion about what a vacation should be about! It's untouched by huge hotels and massive tourism. Wifi and cellular doesn't work well and you will be in shock the first day. If you stay a week, you'll wish all your vacations were like this. You will either go crazy or find what life is really about. Couples and families will love the beaches, bikes and long walks. the food on this island is some of the best we've had in Mexico. It is very casual here, which we loved. It is truly a barefoot paradise!
Only there one night. I liked the relaxing vibe, calm turquoise water, powder white sand with a lot of restaurants and bars for a small island, and golf cart transportation. The roads are all dirt/sand so can be bumpy or muddy after a rain, especially on the less-developed south side of the island (away from Mosquito Point) and the main road through town can be busy. English widely spoken in addition to Spanish and other languages. Many young, beautiful people, couples and families from a variety of countries and backgrounds hanging out to relax and enjoy the scenery. Would recommend for a chill beach getaway. Two hours from Playa del Carmen. Did see a small airport (Cessna size) so it may be possible to fly from somewhere like Cancun, which would be a very short flight (maybe 20 minutes). There did seem to be spas, yoga, water sports, bike and golf cart rentals readily available around the island, especially along the beach.
streets almost always have water since no drainage. so best to get a taxi to most places or walk. no cars there only golf cart taxis. very nice places to eat on the beach which is very nice. we were there just 3 days which was just enough time. tours are nice
The place is very pintoresco, the sea food is always fresh. The people is very friendly an honest , they do there best to take care of the tourists. The oceans is clean and beautiful I went to viva zapata restaurant ,fresh sea food ok cooking. The sampler was good and the fresh fruit water. You can walk all the town or take a taxi for 50 pesos 2.5 dollars 👍🏼 If you are young walk .you can walk on The ocean it has a bank of sand so you walking in the water, is awesome Even a night the town is very safe. The only Thing is the roads are terrible, My dad 82 years old had a hard time with all the bumps on the road so did I 😔. And if you get in The neighborhood is worse they half fix the one for the tourists but the one for the citizens is horrible.
I did not enjoy my weekend in Holbox, whatsoever! The only means of transportation are golf carts or 4 to 6 seater ATV's. The ATV's are much better than riding in the golf carts which are smaller and you feel every bump imaginable. The problem the weekend I visited was that the roads were muddy and full of puddles of water because of the rains earlier during the week. Everywhere you walked the streets were slippery and muddy. It even splashed on you while riding in the golf carts or ATV's. Also, never in my entire existence have I ever experienced mosquitoes like the mosquitoes on Holbox! They are vicious and constantly attack you. If you are traveling here, bring the strongest bug repellent you can find. They are relentless and ruined my trip. I could not enjoy any outdoor activity because the mosquitoes were in attack mode at all times....any time of the day. Further, I'm not a fan of the abundance of huge lizards but some people love them. It was just hard to relax around the pool area of my hotel, when they would just sneak up on you. Also, there really is not a lot to do on Holbox. I wanted to do the bioluminescence late at night because August is the ideal time of year to do so, but the mosquitoes made it impossible. The one highlight of my trip was dinner at Luuma, which was exceptional! I highly recommend. The Lobster pizza everyone recommended was mediocre at best. Other than that, I would pass on Holbox and visit somewhere else. This spot was a waste of my time. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
-Fantastic staff: Professional, friendly, very attentive to the customers needs and well-being, always smiling. Feeling comfy with a 5 stars service. Thank you!! -Food: chief preparing live for you the breakfasts, dinners, anything you would like during the day, fresh food from the day, even customized if needed. Really amazing! -Location: away from center (but not too far at walking distance) to enjoy quiet and peaceful environment with a private beach and pool, and very close to walk till Punta Coco to admire a beautiful sunset.
The location is great, 15 min walk from the harbor and 2 mins from the beach. If you plan to come to Holbox with suitcases, I recommend to use taxi (golf cart) as there is no asphalt on the streets and sidewalks are very high. The rooms are tiny but cozy, we spent most of the time anyway on the beach.
everything is awesome in this hotel, right on the beach, very nice staff, amazing food and all services!! We went with our dog and enjoyed it there 100%. They borrow paddle board so it’s super fun there. We are coming back soon!!
Hotel Takywara was a beautiful bohemian oasis. The breakfast was phenomenal, the room was glorious and the total vibe super peaceful. They also have the best part of the beach with the best swimming.
Great bar and restaurant on the sea front. They have you bracelets for your key which was good- didn’t loose them!
