Didn’t have enough time to explore but the little time I had available, there was plenty to explore. A ton of stores to shop at for sure. Definitely wish I had more time to become more familiar with the area.
Very helpful, friendly locals we encountered. Restaurant across the street had excellent service, shrimp and beer!!...excellent value!! Also, many shops and pharmacies in the area offering great deals!!
The food, drink, and hotel prices are great. The people are friendly. The boots are a specialty in Nogales, we’ve never seen a comparable selection anywhere along the border or in the US for the price. Also, shopping for toys and household decorations is fun and affordable. The panhandlers reflect any city, anywhere I’ve been. Except that in Chicago, they usually have signs. In Nogales, they talk more. It’s hard for me to see the dogs, too. If you think of the salespeople as simply being friendly and asking if you’d like to see their wares, it makes the visit a lot better. Simply say hi and no thank you, and they generally end it there.
We stayed on both sides of the border and love the place. "Noggie" has seen its ups and downs, and living close by (Tucson) we have seen its various transformations. It seems to be on an uplift these days, where in the recent past it all seemed very depressing. But the people (on both sides) seem resilient and determined to improve their community. By chance, we visited while a tequila street fair was happening (April 21-22) on the Sonoran side, and attended the a Charles Mingus dedication on the Arizona side, and both events were wonderful.
I just needed to do some tasks in the U.S., but thought I needed to go to the consulate to renew my visitor visa. That can be done at the border crossing. Also, I was surprised that they let us old folks go to the front of the line, so that was on the Mexican side.
