A most beautiful property about 15 minutes from downtown Kristiansand. Rooms were large and comfy with lovely decor. The grounds were beautiful to walk around and, if weather had permitted, we definitely would’ve spent more time on the river bank. Pierre was a great sommelier accommodating our needs in a sweet and kind way.

This hotel was in a great location to walk and explore the town! The room was a decent size, had a large shower (which was nice!) and was very clean and comfortable! The breakfast here was also worth it! Lots of super neat hikes in/near the town which are worth doing!

Kristiansand isn’t the kind of place you plan a pilgrimage to; it’s the kind of place you wash up in after rolling off a ferry from Denmark. Three minutes after docking in Hirtshals, you’re parked, checked in, and wondering whether you’ve landed somewhere beautiful or just another port town that survives on cruise ships and kebab joints. Turns out, it’s both. The Clarion Hotel Ernst fits right into that contradiction. On the surface, it’s a business hotel, built to swallow up bus tours and floating latrine crowds in bulk. Inside, the décor feels like a mash-up between corporate conference chic and someone’s idea of “luxury” straight out of Riyadh—gaudy, a little odd, but harmless enough. My room was fine. Not inspiring, not offensive. Clean, tidy, with a view that promised the harbor but delivered an office building across the street. The marketing shots oversell it, but hey, what else is new? The real perk was downstairs: safe parking for the bike. That mattered more than the thread count of the sheets, because Kristiansand after dark has its fair share of riffraff. But once I ditched the helmet and walked the waterfront, I realized this town had some charms. I stumbled into a marina-side restaurant that was pouring Aperol spritzes like water and serving seafood that reminded me why coastal Scandinavia is worth the detour. Sunshine, good fish, cold beer, and too many Aperols—suddenly, the beige hotel room didn’t matter. Morning came easy: grab a croissant and a coffee around the corner, fire up the engine, and get out of town. Kristiansand is beautiful, sure, but it’s not a linger-and-soak-it-all-in kind of place. It’s a stopover, a launch pad, a place where you spend one night, not three. So the Clarion? It does its job. No more, no less. A safe bed, a place to stash the bike, and a reminder that sometimes the real hotel experience happens once you step outside its doors. Rating: 3.5/5 – Not memorable, not regrettable.

I was only there for a couple of days as a layover onto my next stop. I wanted to hike the lumber site. I highly recommend taking the trip north to this area. The views were amazing, and it was a pleasant hike and easy for all ages.

Kunstsilo is one of the world's great art venues. The food there was good but not exceptional. While the city itself is OK and has some pleasant areas some of the smaller towns further north are more picturesque.

Very charming village and a great place to stay especially if you take the late ferry from Hirtshals. It is a smaller town but I rate that as a plus as the walkplatz is somewhat limited - which makes me feel comfortable as the people are friendly.

The hotel was located conventiently near both the train and the ferry terminal. When attempting to check in before 15:00 the desk clerk was extremely rude, interrupting and admonishing me for arriving early before I could even introduce myself. We ended up having to wait until 50 minutes after official check-in time to have access to our room. We booked the Presidential Suite and were very disappointed with it. It was old and dated, with dirty carpet, dusty surfaces and missing both the bathrobes and slippers that were listed as provided amenities. Also, it is very annoying to have a mini-bar but no prices. There was no telephone in the room so the only way to contact the staff was by going to the front desk and waiting in line. The property is very dated and in serious need of a renovation. In addition, the staff could use a refresher course in customer courtesy.

The room was very clean and modern. Bed was comfortable. Very central location. The breakfast is quite reach in terms of selection and will get you going for the day. If you need parking and don't mind walking a bit, you could use Gyldengården P-Hus which is a bit further away but cheaper than Torvet Parkeringhus which hotel would suggest you.
