Nice little village struggling with the effects of the earthquake 2 years ago. Give them your business and help them get back on their feet. It's quite spectacular to see the effects of the earthquake. And the views are beautiful. Lots to see and do. Visit South Bay. Easy at the Pier.
Kaikoura is obviously still in recovery mode but the people in the shops were great and there were plenty of eating places open. We were there at the end of winter and enjoyed it and the mountains with snow were just beautiful- summer would be fabulous. South Bay is worth a visit and the walk from the town over the coast line a must.
We were passing through, not a destination. Sadly the bad experience at The Waves Apartments, we couldn’t wait to leave, Kaikoura is a lovely place, just needed to make a more informed choice for our stay
Kaikoura was our intended destination. We have Not visited since the earthquake so decided to travel there to see the changes and put some money into the local economy. We undertook several walks, the Peninsular Walkway, informative and spectacular views and the Fyffe/Palmer Reserve. We were amazed at the wonderful podocarp forest. We have never seen such a stand of trees as we witnessed. (It would be good if volunteers did some trapping in the area to attract more bird life) The whale watch experience was marvellous. Although the seas were lumpy (people had been warned) I found it exhilarating. Seeing the Blue Whales 🐋 was fantastic a very professionally organised tour. We dined out on both nights.....no complaints, lots of choice. It was great to see the bars and restaurants well patronised. It was great to see Kaikoura in heart after the disaster that occurred in 2016. We will be back there is still much to do in this town.
Beautiful place. Spent 3 nights there, but could have done it in 2 nights. Wish there was more things to do there. Craypot Cafe was great. Koura Bay Lodge was good place to stay & had great food. Lavender Farm was beautiful. Hike on the Penisula and seeing seals were awesome! Lookout point was stunning to see a whole view of Kaikoura. Only saw one Whale on the Whale tour, I was hoping to see more Whakes & dolphins too, but no dolphins were to be seen.
Too touristy. All about getting people to sign up for whale/dolphin/penguin spotting. While done as respectfully as these sorts of things can be it still seems like animal harassment. We prefer to view wildlife from a distance without the masses.

We loved everything about this place, the drive to get there, the walk to the pod through an amazing landscape, the pod itself with everything we could need! We usually don’t do any kind of camping but we like small design hotels and this was the very best alternative we could find: it was well done in every detail, lots to see around and the service was perfect as we didn’t need anything since everything was already there.

Beautiful property on the outskirts of Kaikoura. The original building looks like it came straight out of Ireland. Really lovely and well maintained grounds, very expansive with great views over the lake in the garden and the mountains. The rooms were fresh and clean. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality. Helpful staff. Small kids playground. Farm animals and machinery to look at.

Room was clean and well presented. Comfortable soft bed, and the bathroom was clean with everything we required. Parking onsite, so that was very convenient. The town centre only a short walk away where you can find restaurants. Check in and out was quick. We only stayed here for a night. I would recommend this place if you are stopping over in Kaikoura.

Had a very comfortable stay at Koura Bay Lodge. Our hosts were super friendly and helpful, the view out over the golf course and down to Kaikoura and out across the sea was amazing, and we loved being a bit out of town and feeling more rural and isolated. The bed was super comfy, and he small touches like Epsom salts for the bath really helped.

Stunning location and wonderful hosts who made us both feel welcome - almost as if we were family. Waking to a view of the sun touching the tips of snow clad mountains from a warm and comfortable bed, the only disappointment was knowing that we had to leave. We would both highly recommend First Light to anyone considering a stay in Kaikoura.

The perfect getaway spot, amazing views over the Kaikoura bay. We loved the outdoor BBQ, eating in the garden with a view to the bay. Well equipped and spacious, we just loved it here. Bouncy hanging chairs for star gazing at night were an additional highlight of our stay at Sky Harbour - thank you Vanessa and Craig.

The Point is perfectly located...close to the center of Kaikoura, but far enough away to be quiet and relaxed. Peter and Gwenda were marvelous hosts, breakfast was delicious, and the view was incredibly beautiful. You will definitely enjoy Kaikoura if you stay at The Point B&B!

The owners are so accommodating. My husband caught some fresh fish and a lobster and they provided us with all the necessary tools to BBQ them. Kaikoura should be everyone's must do list😃

We stayed in a basic cabin and were very happy with the room, the comfortable bed, the table and chairs as well as the neat little heater which worked a treat. I would definitely recommend this type of accommodation to the semi adventurous traveller who is seeking a place where you meet and share with other travellers. The camp kitchen was well appointed and a constant flow of travellers cooked, dined and cleared away while we were there. The fridge space was excellent for food storage and a freezer was available for a little ice needed for the next day’s travel. We could not fault this excellent park and would love to stay again.
