Disappointed with the fish and chips even after paying extra for deep sea cod, won’t be buying it again, will stick to the lovely chicken and cranberry pizza next time.

A beautiful seaside town.
A beautiful seaside town. Looking across the ocean is the snow capped mountains, so pretty. It is a lovely walk along the beach front, lovely cafes and restaurants. The stoney beach was hard to walk on & the water freezing of course, as we come from sandy beaches and warm water. If we had more time we would have gone out on one of the boats to do a dolphin or whale encounter. The bus ride all the way to Christchurch was a beautiful drive and spotted fur seals along the way

A lovely spot to stop, the weather was fantastic which provided for calm seas and clear nights. The snow on the mountains made for fantastic photos. We will definitely be spending more time here when we next visit.

A great place to stay for a couple of days on the way...
A great place to stay for a couple of days on the way between Christchurch and Picton. The scenery is stunning, between the mountains and the coast. The Peninsular Walk was well worth the effort as we were able to get down to the shore and watch the seals.

A tourist trap. The whale watching seems over priced to me.
A tourist trap. The whale watching seems over priced to me. It also appears way too unclear that you will actually get to see a whale. Hervey Bay, a city in Queensland, Australia, is a much better place for that activity. Calmer waters, warmer, great beaches, good prices and you'd be very unlucky NOT to see a whale or many whales on one of their trips. It is 300 kms north of Brisbane and also next to K'gai (also called Fraser Island), the world's largest island formed of sand. Heaps to see and do.

Great wee uniy, everything we needed, well considered and great waterfront location in Kaikōura near the seal colony. Owners were fab, left us to own devices only checking in to see if we needed anything/ more supplies. Dog friendly and welcoming. We'd definitely recommend and stay again on next trip to Kaikōura. Thank you!

ALSO The hosts are wonderful. SUPER friendly and lovely. Kitchen is great. Bathroom good. It is not the best for rest (see below).

Room was very clean. Room was cold when we arrived but staff provided an extra heater when asked. Bathroom was good but a heater would enhance. Overall the room was value for money. Had a kitchen sink which some motels don't have and I dislike having to do dishes in the bathroom, so a definite plus.
