We booked as a place to stay while our kid competing in basketball tournament in a nearby town... but what a delightful stay - we didn't want to leave! Exquisitely restored historical mansion in the very centre of Penafiel! We were here during the white nights celebration and it was super convenient as the festival was within close reach yet it was quiet on the hotel's street. We absolutely loved the atmosphere! Much thanks to Marianna who provided us with warm welcome and even got our room ready ahead of check in time.

The staff was warm and friendly. The front desk/concierge were extremely helpful with directions, suggested activities, and arranging transportation. The property itself is beautifully maintained and landscaped with outdoor sitting areas and hammocks. The building interior gorgeous and spotlessly clean. Nespresso machine coffee and tea are available all day and night. The breakfast has fruits, cheeses, meats, pastries, breads, yoghurt, and eggs cooked on request. From the street, the property is very unassuming. However, once you enter through the gates, you see the entire beautiful property. Spa services are located on site but we didn’t take advantage of the services. I loved everything about the property. No complaints at all. I highly recommend Casa Kala. Be aware that there is no elevator. A beautiful circular staircase takes you to and from your room. We were on the top floor in the suite. The bedroom had dressers, closet, and a tv. The sitting room had a comfortable sofa, coffee table, tv, storage cabinet and kettle for coffee and tea. The bathroom had a roomy shower with good water pressure. We were given a complimentary bottle of port. I wish I had taken pictures of the staircase and breakfast area on my phone. They’re unfortunately on my husband’s phone. Check it out for yourselves if you’re going to Porto. You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect location from Campanha station. Host was great, rooms and beds were comfortable, check in and check out a breeze, great kitchen and dining area and a clean bathroom. Great value.

Everything. If you prefer the privacy, personal service of a host and hotel-like service, this is it. It strikes the balance between Airbnb and a hotel. Both hosts (Joaquim and Elisabete) are very attentive and personable. Elisabete who has hospitality background understands what service is. Our room is constantly well kept and neat. We have breakfast option and she even packed our lunch for our day hiking trip to Douro Valley. Hosts are very flexible, remember to communicate.
