There are many worth-visiting places in Ploiești.

There are many worth-visiting places in Ploiești. I loved the Clock Museum (50 lei in July 2026). The town is clean, green - with the wonderful street of 100s of chestnut trees, and several parks. The Palace of Culture is beautiful, and I enjoyed the aquarium inside it - there are many species of fish indeed. Plus a clock in the hallway, which appears in the film "Around the World in 80 Days." An informed traveller will particularly enjoy the many spots of interest.

It's a dumpster of a city, don't have many interesting things to see other than the "beauty" of post-communist poverty stricken Romania with crappy infrastructure, lack of roads / parking spaces / sidewalks / road markings, and big wealth differences between the neighborhoods. There are very nice things to visit around it, and on Valea Prahovei, but for the love of God just stay in Sinaia, Campina, Azuga or any slightly pricier touristic city rather than staying here. Your lungs, eyes and soul will be grateful.

Ploiesti is a town located in the middle between Bucharest and Valea Prahovei, which hosts some of the prettiest (and busiest!) mountain resorts and mountain villages in Romania. It is a nice, cheap town to stay if you want to visit both the capital as well as do some hiking. It has two train stations that make it very convenient and easy to get to anywhere in the country (ok, perhaps not to Cluj-Napoca, but anywhere within a 50-100 km radius). So even if you dont have a car, Ploiesti makes it easy to visit many interesting places. Even within the town you have a few museums and theaters (The Clock Museum, the Petrol/Oil Museum, the History Museum, The Paul Constantinescu Memorial House, the Paul Constantinescu Philharmonic, the central Farmer's market, etc). It is a good place to experience the everyday life of Romanians.

I did have reservations about going to Romania to watch a...

I did have reservations about going to Romania to watch a sporting event in town but these proved completely unfounded and we thoroughly enjoyed our 12 day stay. Yes, the town does have the hallmarks of an ex eastern block design but that just adds character and charm of these and other period buildings in amongst the newer westernised designs. All the bars and restaurants we went into were very accommodating, clean, polite and above all reasonably priced compered to UK. Everyone we met out and about was polite and accommodating despite and language barriers - we all got there in the end!! I would gladly go back and explore a little bit more and the nearby locations of Bran Castle (Dracula) and Brasov a definite must whilst you are there too

I was just passing by therefore I can't say too much about but it was a pleasant staying. Breakfast and room were quite good. If you want to stay in Plotesti it can be a good place were to look for accomodation

A diverse and lively city, interesting museums (Clock Museum, Casa targovet) good specialty coffee, interesting architectural mix, yum food (Curtea Berarilor). The art museum is worth a visit if you like RO painter.
