The location was good, close to the main road. You have a place to park your car and a nice small porch to sit outside. The owner was funny and friendly, but I never tried to tell him any of my issues.

Quiet resort in the mountains of Gorj county, Romania.
Quiet resort in the mountains of Gorj county, Romania. Not many "attractions" in summer, but if you are after the mountain view and fresh air it is perfect for couple days stay. Farmer market on the way up from Novaci to Rânca (make sure you bring cash, as the shepherds don't take cards- yet. LOL).
Nice place, pretty simple, clean air, quiet (when no motorcyclists around). Not many "attractions" end of August, but as a busy person in a big city I do appreciate a little slow living now and then, to recharge my batteries. Very good food is available in the area. Organic stuff, homemade style.

This resort has potential to become something nice.

Currently there's no ATM here so you'll have some cash at your disposal for places where paying by card is not an option (like skiing hours, equipment rental, paying for parking and guarantee for the ski-lift card)
Also I've only identified two supermarkets both are rather small and only one of them accepts credit cards.
Parking is rather difficult especially when it's snowing and parking on the side of the road is no longer an option, for the M1 sky track there are only two parking lots that are rather small and one of them is 30Ron/day.
For the M3 and sleigh tracks there is a larger parking lot available at 5Ron/h.
In what regards food I have tried Tara Ranca and Alessia Restaurant and both offered great services.
In what regards skiing and snowboarding lessons I recommend NDY Skiing Center that is located near the M1 track.
Also I recommend going from Sunday to Saturday or mid week in order to avoid congestion.

One of the greatest roads in the country - Transalpina.
The view is breathtaking, the air is clean, the people are friendly.
If you travel by car there are a lot of wonderful places to visit in the close proximity (100-150km).

The surroundings, the location are excellent.
The surroundings, the location are excellent. Plenty of accommodation facilities. Hotel Paring was excellent, very good food, nice location and facilities. It is easy to get there from Tirgu Jiu, and it is very spectacular to get there on Transalpina mountain road, but not easy. There is a ski resort and there are mountaineering opportunities. Parang mountains are very close and easy to get there.

The main attraction in the summer is the beautiful road "...
The main attraction in the summer is the beautiful road "Transalpina" on which Ranca is situated. The road is the highest road in Romania. Along the many hairpin turns of the road, vast, breathtaking vistas appear on clear days which will undoubtedly overwhelm your senses.
There are several rustic places to visit on the way and even some daring hiking opportunities for enthusiasts.
Ranca truly shines as a ski resort in the winter.
Overall, it's a sure winning destination, but only if the weather gods are in your favor.

The host was amazing. They've accommodate our late arrival as well as they've provide excellent service during our stay. The breakfast was really good with all the Romanians goodies served in a big portions. The locations of the hotel is really good with restaurants and multiple view points on Transalpina.
The discreet, good quality furnishings, the pleasant smell in hotel and in room, the heating, the warm, fluffy duvet, the size of the room and balcony, the general warm and cozy atmosphere that you don't find in many places. Good food at the restaurant.
Everything was great, rooms very clean, kind host and good location and the view was amazing. You can see the entire mountain and the forest from the windows. We come back here for accommodation each time we travel to Ranca.
I liked the friendliness of the host and the beautiful view from our window.
The room was big and clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The location is excellent near to the entrance into Ranca.
I appreciate the staff's effort - staff was waiting for our arrival until 2 am!! :-O But still there is a long way to go to reach the west and middle european standards and approach of 3 stars hotels.
