Ames was super cute! I travel a lot to college towns for work and this was one of my favorites. There's a can't miss wine bar, a bunch of cute shops downtown, and you can't beat the midwest for value and hospitality.
My son goes to school at Iowa State. It is a great school! My son loves it and they could not be more helpful. They really acted like they wanted him to go to school there which is unusual for a state school. The campus is beautiful, maybe to best I have ever seen. He could not have made a better choice. That said, there is not much to do or see in Ames. It is a basic Midwestern town. 45 minutes from Des Moines if you want to get to a bigger city.
Ames provides a hometown feel with a lot to offer to it's residents. It's a great place to raise children and access to a diverse education experience with Iowa State University at the center of the city. Enjoy taking in a cultural experience at CY Stephens, sporting event at Hilton or Jack Trice Stadium. Reiman Gardens is a must see with both inside and outside horticultural displays. Main street offers some unique shops and restaurants. For the avid shopper North Grand Mall offers a wide range of store to select from. South Duff provides a variety of restaurants to meet the needs of even the pickiest of eaters. Hickory Park has always been a favorite of mine.
My daughter is attending Iowa State University. So, that was the reason for my visit. I went to settle her in. Most of our time was spent not only on the campus but also in South Duff avenue where we shopped and ate. The taxi's were timely in our getting around. The people were helpful and kind.
Ames is a cute small city. I came for work and had a good time while I was there. The restaurants I ate at were good and the people were friendly. If you’re coming from a big city, don’t expect to rely on public transportation and walking. Rent a car.
SO much to do and see in Ames. We ate at Texas Roadhouse and La Botenara. La Botenara is a very small one man run Columbian restaurant. It was AMAZING!!! We went to Target and stayed at the Econo Lodge. Getting around in Ames is easy however there was a lot of traffic this time.
Facility could be demolished, room smelled, towels not thick and used multiple ones to dry off, staff never reachable. Facilities open to anybody regardless if you have a key card or not. Super 8 is now off my list of hotels to stay at. Definitely not Wyndham caliber.
Ames
it’s updated and clean, has very comfortable beds, a room with mini fridge and microwave and a decent breakfast. I’ve stayed at many different hotels in the area all at varying levels of accommodations, I’m very happy to have discovered the Red Roof Inn in Ames
The property was very convenient and relatively priced compared to other hotels in the area during a busy football weekend. While the outside and lobby area have an “older feel”, the individual hotel rooms have been updated and exceeded my expectations.
Located right off I-35 which was great, I needed a simple no frills place to crash after a concert and this hotel was exactly that. Good value for what I paid. Coffee was pretty good.
Tasteful and charming decor. Located next to Iowa State Arboretum so great walking paths. Delicious breakfast. Very comfortable beds and rooms. Will stay here again and again.
breakfast was just the right amount of variety - love the fact the hotel is connected to Old Chicago - makes drinking/dining very convenient.
Location is great for football game days. Plenty of space. Like having an apartment vs a hotel room. Was a nice apartment for what we needed.
It was a quiet hotel, and it had all the amenities for a pleasant stay. The staff were very friendly, even during a busy weekend.
The location of the hotel was good!
