Austin is a nice, but it is extremely crowded and lacks appropriate infrastructure for the number of residents who now live there. The traffic is horrendous day and night. There is also a huge homeless population, and it is difficult to travel anywhere without being harassed by them. On the upside, if you enjoy the outdoors, there are beautiful lakes and parks, and the city is very walkable. It is also dog-friendly.
S. Congress is heavily congested with both car traffic and foot traffic. The are near the Austin Motel doesn't really hold much of interest with the exception of Joe's coffee shop (long lines but good coffee and baked goods!), a few bars and clubs and another motel. Construction everywhere which makes it even harder to get around. Thankfully there's plenty of Uber drivers in the area to get you where you want to go.
Austin is one of my favorite local destinations!! I absolutely love going back there and have missed it ever since leaving my alma mater University of Texas. The city has so much to offer from delicious foods, vibrant live music and bar scene, incredible hilly views, parks and recreation, lakeside trails, booming skyline, art on every street corner, and so much more! Highly recommend it to anyone who has the chance to visit. Hook ‘Em Horns!
I've always heard that Austin is a fun place to visit with many places to see and activities to experience. But for someone new to the city, it is hard to get around. Austin roads are the biggest problem. It seems the whole city and it's surroundings are just kludged together. No city planning. And the traffic at rush hour is way over the top. Toll roads to many places you might want to go overlaid many surface streets that serve as highways. Many roads wander around the city as if they were originally cow paths. If you don't know your way around, you are in for a lot of getting lost. Even with GPS, it can be rough. You really need to plan out every trip and fully understand how to get where you want to go.
There is a great variety of things to do and see in Austin. The history aspect is amazing and the horticulture and events, restaurants can fit every taste. Check before you go to see what is happening so you can make the most of your time. The new Library is a wonderful place to visit even if you aren't in to libraries.
I didn’t get out much during my trip, however for the little time that I did, the people of Austin seem to be the most friendliest in the country. For now Austin I has won the top spot in that category for me.

Large suite was great with plenty of room for 4 adults. Location was practically next door to the Capitol building and Bob Bullock Museum and about a mile from 6th Street, Congress Ave Bridge, etc. Beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Lobby area was very nice. We also went to the pool, which was small but nice. Love that the property is dog friendly but also so clean. Austin is expensive in general but for a nice hotel we felt like this was a good value compared to other hotels in downtown Austin.
