Hotel in Montpelier
The nonsmoking Comfort Inn & Suites at Maplewood is located off Interstate 89, 5.1 mi from the Vermont State House capitol building. Free WiFi is available. This was our favourite hotel during our 2 weeks travelling in New England /Vermont. The hotel is lovely , bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and the breakfast - self serve buffet style - was good . However it was all the little extras that made it special. On arrival there were free chocolate cookies ( sadly I couldn’t eat then as I am coeliac ) but my husband had mine and said they were delicious. There was also water , warm cider , cans of soda and tea/ coffee that you could help yourself to. On arrival in the room there were 2 little souvenir bottles of maple syrup. There is a small gym which my husband used and a small launderette which came in useful . We went to Applebee’s next door for an evening meal and I’m not a big fan of chains ,but the food was very nice actually and the service ( a lady named Ebony ) was as good as you can get anywhere . Overall we loved it here . Big well done to the manager and staff here for creating something special ( lots of good hotels in the US but this was really good )

Barre is very laid back, nothing spectacular. Restaurants are local. We weren't looking for culture and were very content with the relaxed environment. Burlington is only 45 minutes away. The owner Caryn has all the local restaurant info in the room's notebook. It's a lovely old town.
It was a one night stay, and my annual visit for work in Montpelier the next morning. If you like Thai food, The Royal Orchid on Elm Street is fabulous. The owner Art and his wife (?) are very nice!
Good place to stay if you are visiting Montpelier. Downtown Barre is interesting. A cemetery has artistic sculptures from the 19th and early 20th Centuries. Some historical buildings, like the Socialist Labor Hall, the Library, etc.

It's a small Vermont town. Very close to mountpilier and centrally located to severl great sights in Vermont. Take the time to check out a great bar called The Cornerstone Pub and also the Wayfair diner for good eats!
Small town America. Looks like a great place to raise your kids if you could find work that would support living in a small town. We enjoyed walking around town and the Cornerstone Pub for lunch and the Ladder 1 Firehouse for dinner. This is a great place to stay and is easy to get to all the other places around like Morse Family Farm to get Maple Syrup, Ben and Jerry's Icecream factory and Cabot Cheese store.
