Bluff is a small community with an elementary school, convenience store/gas station, one restaurant, and several places to stay. The Twin Rocks restaurant and Trading Post were well worth the stop. The food was excellent, a bit pricey, but the portions were large and could easily be shared. The Trading Post had a fantastic selection of Native American art and jewelry, well worth just visiting, even if you don't buy. Last but not least, the Desert Rose Resort and Cabins is a genuine diamond in the ruff. Reasonably priced, it is a hard resort to leave.
This is an amazing property. We stayed in cottage "B", it had the washer and dryer. Large, beautifully decorated, comfy bed, shame it wasn't a king. Still, that's of very small importance. Air con worked very efficiently and very quiet. Close to several National Parks and the Four Corners (fantastic for First Nations arts and crafts, bought a few beautiful things). Could not recommend more.
Love the quiet and the solitude. It is a great jumping off point for Bears Ears National Monument and Monument Valley! The only negative I can say about Bluff is it is vey small town so it has very limited dining choices. I would recommend the Twin Rocks Cafe as the best in town!
We picked a spot on the map to stop for the night. Couldn't have been happier. Dukes restaurant was fantastic. Friendly staff. Food was excellent. A little bit of a drive to the natuinal parks, but away from the hustle and bustle of Moab. Still good hiking and rock formations in the area and close to Sand Island petroglyphs.
Bluff is the gateway to Bears Ears and to the San Juan River. Lots of river people doing float trips and fishing. Bears Ears is just wonderful. Go to the Natural Bridges, and spend some time hiking around in the pristine land. View the ruins. Spend time just being there. This area is a last hold out of what has been. Get there before fire does. It is amazing.
An incredible place—incredible access to the outdoors, fantastic food, and the kind of peace you didn't know you needed until you get there. I almost hope it stays small and sleepy. Not even almost :)
Very nice little hotel in a beautiful setting between large cliffs. The hotel has a very distinctive style and several unique features (burning outside fireplaces at night, private BBQs for the suites, there was a Native American giving a lecture and playing the flute in the evening at the pool, …). The hotel is newly built so everything is neat and perfect. There is an extension still in construction at one side of the property but we haven’t noticed any disturbance from it.
I'd had a rough day of driving when I finally arrived here, so Canyon Wren felt like an oasis. I'd also come from Torrey, so Bluff was a big improvement on that. Susan is a wonderful host, and I was lucky to spend a long time at breakfast learning more about the area from her. Great breakfast = late start to Cortez. I was happy for the delay.
Bluff
Amazing view, room and staff. Huge room, shower was phenomenal, breakfast was homemade and the best I've had so far on this trip or at most hotels I've stayed at and i rravel for work frequently. Highly recommend staying here.
