Go to fort bragg at least twice per yer if not more in the past. Area in decline. Bragg and Mendocino have many empty storefronts. Many restaurants are average at best. Even area state parks need attention. Has been a special getaway for us. Not so much so anymore.

I got lucky with the weather and had two perfect days while I was in town. It has a small town vibe but still seems to be hoppin’ with tourists. I had a great dinner of won ton soup at the local Chinese restaurant and spent the day perusing various antique shops. The business owners seem to be “over” us tourists which I picked up on at a few places which was too bad. Loved the Skunk Train though and the colorful murals around town, and had a delightful time over at the wharf which is tucked away and easy to miss. Glass beach was a fun 30 min activity and I made time to visit the lighthouse which is just five miles away. You have to park and walk a half mile to the lighthouse but it’s worth it to do at least once. Overall a charming little beach town with chill tranquil vibes.

    A fantastic location.

A fantastic location. A town of "normal" people without all the tourists down in Mendocino Village. Plenty of good restaurants and shopping. Even a big grocery (Safeway) and some big drug stores.

We enjoyed riding the Skunk train and learning of its history. The hike through the rainforest was a bonus with its carpet of ferns and the towering coastal redwoods providing a shady cool environment.

I stayed there with my family on a trip to Redwood National Park. The hotel is conveniently situated on the main road, not far from the Skunk Train. Nice atmosphere. The room had everything we needed (microwave, fry).
