Was approximately 5 hours from my final destination (home) - Colorado. Go through Hayes every time I travel. Someday I will stay and take a look around Hayes, when I’m not so tired and in a hurry to get to where I’m going.
Not happy due to the fact that they make no exceptions about a family emergency and not being able to make the trip out to Hays after all. Obviously when dealing with a family ER you aren’t thinking about having to cancel a room.
I got out and walked at a couple of parks, including the one at the site of the old Ft. Hays. There are a couple of museums that look interesting, but all were closed or about to close by the time I hit town. Lots of history in Hays...I would like to stay longer and explore it more.
We didn't visit any of the area around Hays. We were passing through. It is an interesting town "on the edge" just before passing into Eastern Colorado. It was larger than expected and probably has a few fun things to do if one has time.
Sternberg Museum is phenomenal. We ate at Billy Sims BBQ and Whiskey Creek. Both were very good and had great service. The hotel people were really nice also. We were there for Ft Hays State University graduation.
We asked the staff about places to have the evening meal, and they gave us a complete list of possibilities. We enjoyed the one we picked, and were pleased that we had the choice to pick our preference. The staff was comfortable givig their opinions of the options.
