The Montana Heritage Center, a museum right by the capitol...
The Montana Heritage Center, a museum right by the capitol building, is worth a day or two. I'm not a museum guy, but this is a first class place, and worth strolling through at a very leisurely pace, pausing and taking in exhibits about ice age Montana, the animals, the people who live there now, the copper miners in Butte, the native tribes and nations (very informative exhibits about languages and cultures; there's also a research center where I was able to look at a book on the Salish writing system, which is pretty mysterious at first glance), white settlement in Montana, etc.
And of course, the country around Helena is great. Wolf Creek and Craig are less than an hour away north on I-15, for people who want to fish the glory stretch of the Missouri River.

We would have stayed longer, but hotel prices were too high...
We would have stayed longer, but hotel prices were too high so we shortened our stay. Some promotion to get us to add a day...3rd night half price or 3rd night $100 or your stay at par to Cdn dollar or something like that might have swayed us. We are Cdn. and after waiting in line 4.5 hours to cross your border and then pay exorbitant hotel prices made it a negative experience, cutting into the shortened time of our stay. I guess Canadian visitors are no longer welcome as we were in years gone by.
On the positive side we always come for Grandstreet Theatre, loved the Mineral Spa experience, some shopping and The Gates to the Canyon Cruise. These things were all great value but hotel prices were at the opposite end of the value spectrum 😞. After many visits to this beautiful, friendly city, because of that - will we be back...likely not any time soon. Sorry for all of us.

It was a beautiful city with so much history.
It was a beautiful city with so much history. It was easy to drive in. We really enjoyed the Last Chance Tour. Also the Montana Heritage Center with its amazing Charles M. Russell exhibit. Didn’t have time to see all we wanted to. We will be back.

Helena is a lovely city with beautiful historic buildings.
Helena is a lovely city with beautiful historic buildings. The pedestrian mall downtown is a fun, car-free place to walk and enjoy shops and restaurants. There are many great hiking and biking trails to explore.

Helena is a beautiful town in Montana with a lot of options to explore. The state Capital, outdoor activities, many and varied restaurants, rich in history; Helena has a lot to offer someone visiting the area.

Helena is a small yet friendly city with many noticeable infrastructure improvements going on. The historic home district is great as is the "train" tour around town. Lots of quaint places to shop and dine, with a good mixture of larger national chain stores and other modern conveniences a city slicker like myself can appreciate! On the downside are uneven walking areas in the downtown area, plus more evidence of an increasing homeless population than during my last visit 3 years ago.

We checked in late but the receptionist was very accomodating, he even gave us cookies for the kids. Breakfast was nice, they served biscuits and gravy, which is a first for us in all the hotels that we've been. Beds were comfortable.

A motel is a motel. Some are lovely and real value for money, others are disgusting. This is the former, a nice clean comfortable motel near the centre of Helena, with really nice staff, and good value for money.
