I travel with a service animal (dog) and while restaurants/stores/hotel/entertainment owners/mangers know the laws and cannot deny access to a registered ADA service animal, the local people are less than understanding and give the property owners/mangers a very hard time, even if the service dog is well behaved and not noticed until it is time to leave the premises. This causes problems for those of us who travel with service animals and for restaurant, store, entertainment and hotel owners/managers. People, in general, especially locals in small towns and cities need to be made more aware of the limitations and laws property owners/managers must abide governing ADA/service animals. Please understand, this is no reflection on proprietors/mangers of any town, especially Manistee. It is a reflection, however, on locals in Manistee and other small cities across the US.
I love Manistee and the Manistee hotel was very very nice! Besides the cafe being closed because of covid, it was relaxing and comfortable the pool was beautiful and so was the jacuzzi! We will be back in the fall.
Quaint town with beautiful Victorian houses. The main Street reminded me of Galena, Il. just not as long. I would have loved a walk along the river but, alas, it is too hard for me to walk anymore. We went to see the Fall colors. We got there before peak season, but still very nice. We used the Manistee Fall tour books and it was helpful! The beach at end of First St. was nice. We went at Covid time, so, many eating places were closed or limited open times. We had a friend there though to show us around! Also, street repair made things interesting! Was surprised to see 8 or so deer in town, grazing on people's lawns, so ,be careful driving!
It was a smaller town, but personally I loved that about it. It was super friendly and you could walk around downtown and visit different shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. It also had a fantastic view of Lake Michigan, not to mention the lighthouse is beautiful. I would recommend grabbing a drink and bite to eat at the North Channel Brewery, and staying at the Manistee Inn and Marina!
Manistee is an economically challenged region and on the tribal lands of the Little River Branch of the Ottawa Indians. It sits between Lake Michigan and Manistee Lake and has two nice beaches on Lake Michigan along with a lighthouse and The Manistee River running through the downtown with a lovely river walk. There are several good restaurants, including TJ's Pub, The Blue Fish, Filmores, The North Channel Brewing Company and The Bungalow Inn. Manistee is the only city in Manistee County and in a good location for day trips between Muskegon and the Leelanau Peninsula as well as Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and MANY other lovely lakes. The LRBOI has a nice casino located just outside of town. Traverse City and Mission Peninsula are an easy day trip. It is easy to get around town but drives along M-22 and B-15 with many stops along the way was how we spent most of our time there. We love this area of Michigan and it's an easy drive from our mid-Ohio home. We plan on returning again soon.
Beautiful town full of historical buildings and quiet side streets. I love sitting and watching the water ways it almost forces you to relax. Only complaint I had was the roads are unusually narrow and need fixed.
The hotel was immaculately clean everywhere! The staff was very cordial and made several excellent suggestions for things to see and do in the immediate area. Parking was right next to the building, so it was easy to bring in our suitcases. The beds were very comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. The river walk directly behind the hotel is a lovely, relaxing way to get to the Lake Michigan shore.
The rooms need a remodel along with the whole hotel but the lobby where you check in. The beds were not comfortable the doubles need to be replaced with a new queen bed. Very expensive hotel for wgat it looked and smells like . I wouldn’t ever stay there again I will drive to see Manistee before I stay in manistee!!!
It is in a decent location, just because there are a lot of restaurants and shops nearby. But I wouldn’t recommend swimming or vacationing at the Manistee River, it looks heavily polluted. No breakfast here due to Covid, but they still had coffee and juice. Clean enough.
The location was good for our needs. They did allow us to check in early which was helpful since we were going to be at our activity at check in until past 10pm. Pool area was clean- posted only open until 9pm though!
Great location, close to the local beaches and restaurants. We love staying here as the hotel is always clean and staff is always so friendly.
