We dined at Artisan which is a very nice restaurant. We found it to be a bit overrated and the other restaurants in the area are all good especially around the square. We saw Star Wars at the movie theater in town when it was released and enjoyed the movie with limited crowds. It was perfect timing. All the charming boutiques were great to stroll through. One night we had drinks at Le Cheval and there was a small 2 piece band. That was special. The next day we strolled into a restaurant/bar and there were 3 guitarists and they were amazing!!
We enjoy trying new wineries. We were very pleased with the set up for distance required by Covid and the sanitizing used. It was different than what we were used to but we still had a great experience. Just remember to make appointments for visits and tasting.
I love Paso Robles. The town is great. The people are very nice. The wineries are fantastic. Most aren't as fancy as say in Napa and Sonoma. But there are a few and I suspect they will eventually build some. Daou is great because it's on a hilltop and has a fantastic view as well as good wine. I'm a cigar smoker and the town has a great cigar shop with a lounge. There are good places to eat and some micro breweries for beer drinkers. Its also a fairly close drive to the ocean if you want to go to the beach.
If you love wine tasting and great restaurants this is the place to come. The parking downtown is paid parking during the week They were nice and have us a warning. Almost all the wineries are by appointment.
Paso Robles has become a must see destination due to the over 230 wineries that equal that of Napa and Sonoma counties. Other attractions like mineral hot springs and a great downtown region, in addition to the California Mid-State Fair. The Vina Robles event center has plenty of top headliner shows in a great venue. Travel from attraction to another is easy and traffic free.
So many wineries...so much wine to taste and enjoy! My choice for spending a 2 1/2 hour drive from the Bay Area? Paso Robles, of course! Not only are there wonderful wineries (beautiful reds) and lovely restaurants, but it's not too far from the coast during some of the hot days of summer! Do your homework on the wineries - there are so many unique ones, that planning is important (split between the East and West side of Highway 101). My favorite winery was Zenaida - beautiful wine, lovely grounds, great education from the Cellar Master!

The inn at Croad exceeded our expectations - friendly staff, great wine, a comfortable room, and a phenomenal view. We booked our room online without seeing it in person beforehand. The pictures on the website are 100% accurate - this place really is that nice.
