Salida is a beautiful town as are surrounding mountains. The people are very friendly. I really loved driving around and seeing the old historic houses in the historic district around the town. It appears that they have building, codes to keep the historic look of the late 1800s. Driving on the highways around Salida is beautiful! There are many historic places to visit within easy driving distance of Salida. The area provides many ways to get out and enjoy the scenery. You can fish, river raft, hike or sit around the river and enjoy the view. There are enormous areas of public land surrounding Salida where people can take their off-road vehicles. The town provides a variety of activities for everyone. Though I didn't go to the Hot Springs pool, I heard many people making comments about how much they enjoyed it. I did not go to any of the restaurants in town but did see a variety of cuisines. My dog, Traveler, loved the dog park. This is an area that I would consider living in after I'm done with all of my traveling.
Salida is set between two beautiful mountain ranges, and offers plenty of activities....fly fishing is great, hiking, biking, photo ops. Easy access to biking trails, fishing, old town shops. Chalk Cliffs, Chalk Resevoir, and Chalk Creek are just 20 minutes north of town. The fall colors are amazing!
We had a nice, short walk from the hotel to main street along clearly remodeled and refurnished houses, all of which had a lot of character! The main street (F Street) was busy with vacationers, most abiding by the mask rule, and most businesses were open for business. We ate at the Boat House and it was wonderful!
Salida is a favorite getaway for us. It is relatively close to home and offers a lot of activities for the entire family. We sometimes just go up for the day to enjoy lunch and watching people play in the river from the Boathouse Cantina's indoor patio. Other times we spend a night or two at Brown's Canyon Inn and have a steak dinner at Quincy's. Sadly Quincy's was closed during our last visit. Hopefully that was temporary and they will reopen soon.
We keep discovering more things to do every time we go to Salida, Moonlight pizza can't be missed, the museum is great, just walking on the bridge over the river is fun! I'm sure we'll keep finding more things to do. We'll have to try that Monarch Crest Tramway mentioned below!
I enjoyed Salida however, in recent years it has exploded and has become Hugely Overpriced! The prices were comparable to a large expensive ski area with dozens of activities. Salida is primarily an Outdoor activity area-river rafting, biking, hiking-and the prices are ridiculous! And I do Mean Truly Ridiculous! I've lived in Colorado Springs for 23 years. Salida is Not of the caliber-nor offers the variety of activities that the other areas that are a few hours drive away-that warrant the prices that are being charged for everything! I was both amazed and outraged at the over-inflation of prices! Save your money and go to Buena Vista or better yet, Telluride or Vail if you're going to spend That Kind of Money! Seriously!
