A Little of Austria.A Lot of Vermont! Situated on 2,500 acres in beautiful Stowe, Vermont, Trapp Family Lodge (yes…that von Trapp family) is a unique mountain resort featuring Austrian-inspired...

The tours were great. I learned a lot and I had fun exploring the woods. The view is spectacular, too. I enjoyed all the photos in the room and hallways. It’s very peaceful at the lodge and just sitting outside breathing in the fresh air has been a pleasure.

You have to try jalapeno cheddar pancakes with maple syrup...

You have to try jalapeno cheddar pancakes with maple syrup and hollandaise sauce at the Butler's Pantry. Alchemist brewery is a must stop and Von Trapp Brewery and lodge grounds deserve a visit. Great place in the winter, if you like winter sports. But with all the natural beauty, it is worth a visit any time a year. Fall foliage is awesome to see in this area.

    We love Stowe.

We love Stowe. We have been here many times starting over 50 years ago on our honeymoon!! The character of the town is just wonderful. This year they had a Halloween parade with the children of the town all dressed up!! It was charming! We will definitely be back!!

    Stowe is adorable.

Stowe is adorable. The reputation it has as a fall foliage destination is well deserved. The little downtown is adorable and very walkable, the traffic wasn't great but we were able to find parking relatively easily. If visiting from out of town, you're going to want a rental car since many of the attractions are spaced miles apart. There are a ton of great food-related things to try near by. We really enjoyed the sugar houses (we saw Bragg Farm and Goodrich's Maple Farm and recommend them both - about 40ish minutes out of town), Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Cabot cheese shop, and Ben and Jerry's factory. We stopped at but didn't stay at the Trapp Family Lodge, which was well worth seeing. We did try the Trapp Kaffeehaus (which also serves their beer) which was great. If you like hard cider we also recommend Stowe Cider.

A quaint town set in the most picturesque location.

A quaint town set in the most picturesque location. The shops were attractive and there were plenty of places to eat. The nearby Von Trapp Family Lodge is well worth a visit. There is lots to do in the summer and the winter but we had not realised that most attractions and roads to mountain peaks would be closed from mid October until the ski season starts so we were caught in the middle of this time and had less open for our visit.

Our experience in Stowe was not the best one.

Our experience in Stowe was not the best one. The little town was crowded with visitors, most accommodations were showing “no vacancies”, yet only ~30% of the restaurants were open during dinner time and/or open every day of the week. The choices of dishes were very limited, mostly sandwiches, burgers and chips. No soups, very little vegetable options. Cafe on Main was a welcome exception, offering healthy salads for breakfast. We took Gondola ride up the mountain, which advertised spectacular views. Maybe due to the overcast and no sunlight the views from the top were very dull, there were no subjects for any photos below or around, and most views were obscured by the trees. Most people went straight to the restaurant or for waffles and then back to the queue for riding down. It was obvious that hospitality businesses were preparing for the skiing season and operated in limited capacity .

Gondola ride was marvelous, Von Trapp Brewery was a treat.

Gondola ride was marvelous, Von Trapp Brewery was a treat. Von Trapp Lodge did not seem welcoming unless you were staying on site and had permits and tour was costly so did not do. Plenty of sites and would be an amazing ski destination.
