This Buttonwillow, California motel is located off Interstate 5, only 30 minutes east of Bakersfield. It features an outdoor pool and rooms with free WiFi. I’ve stayed at this Motel 6 several times. I’ve stayed at Motel 6 properties, across the country... East to West, North to South, over many years. They’re always convenient, usually acceptably clean and staffs are friendly, most all the time. This particular Motel 6 is the nicest, cleanest and quietest, of all, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. It exceeds many higher end hotels, like Doubletree, Holiday Inn and Marriott Hotels in cleanliness, definitely, which is exceedingly important in this time of the Pandemic!
Tule Elk State Reserve is 9.8 miles from Vagabond Inn Buttonwillow North in Buttonwillow, California. The motel includes an outdoor pool and guest rooms provide expanded cable TV. Stayed 3 nights in a 2 Queen bed room. Pros: Beds were comfortable. Very little noise. Great friendly staff. No, bugs of any kind. No, cigarette smoke smell.
I needed a police escort back to the hotel after an being approached by unknown suspects while walking to a 7-11 two blocks away. They pulled up alongside me for a few seconds, pulled away but stopped a 100 yds down the road, began to back up, then stopped and pulled away again. Then, as I entered the 7-11 parking lot they drove into the lot at a high rate of speed but pulled away when they saw an employee open the door for me.
La Salsa Restaurant and Cantina and Jo's Restaurant were very good and reasonably priced. Albertson's was conveniently located. We stayed in Taft to hike in Carrizo Plain and was a very good decision as it was under an hour away.
The only reason we were here was to see the wildflowers in Carrizo. Other than that, I would not go to Taft for any reason. It's an oil town, literally, with oil pumps everywhere, not one decent restaurant, and definitely nowhere to eat after 10pm except Burger King, which is exactly where we ended up.
I wasn't exactly visiting Taft; it was just the most convenient place to spend the night before getting an early start for the Carrizo Plain wildflower display, which did not disappoint! I could easily do this trip again when the conditions are right for another explosive nature show. I would definitely return to Jo's for breakfast and would consider having dinner there, but it may be that they stop serving after lunchtime.
GPS guided us to drive in all kind of oil well production field. I forced to look at hundreds of oil wells. It is an extra unexpected activities, awesome . If your GPS doesn't work like my old one , make sure you drive through those area.
