Manase (Near Salelologa)
Located on Savai'i Island, Stevensons at Manase offers a secluded beach and reef for snorkeling, swimming and kayaking.
The staff were friendly, kind, and welcoming. The service they provided was exceptional. I had good conversations with the staff. Appreciated them. The distance from the sea to my room was great. Had fast access to the sea for a swim/snorkle. Having an outdoor shower was awesome to wash off the sand from the beach etc. Food that I tried on the menu was delicious. The view from the front of my room onto the beach/sea was beautiful. So close to the sea. Best of the hotels I visited on Savai'i. My room was high above the water, so I had a beautiful view of the sea, the sunrise, and sunset. Beautiful location.
This is the only town in Savaii and has the ferry wharf, so we travelled through it twice, on arrival and departure back to Upola. It's a functional port town and not great for tourists as the beaches are away up the coast. Basic shops and a couple of fast food style outlets. The restaurant at Lusia's Lagoon where we stayed was one of two better places to eat. We stayed just one night at the end of our cycling tour of the island, before catching the ferry the next morning. I would recommend other tourists to stay out of the town, as there's much nicer accommodation further up the coast in Lano and Manase, so if you have a car it's a quick drive to the port. We were cycling so it was easier to stay in town, but I wish we hadn't as it isn't interesting and there are no beaches to swim from.
Savaii is as beautiful as everyone has told me. My parents are from Upolu so there was never a need to visit Savaii but this time we were on a family reunion and my grandparents originated from Savaii. I was blown away with its beauty, the culture and the people were so beautiful and friendly. I am currently looking at Savaii as a great place to retire, in the meantime every time I go back to Samoa I will definitely be going back to Savaii.
