Belle Resort is perched about halfway between the base and ridge of the Dukagjin Gorge, wooded 360° as far as the eyes can see. The villas are on the south side of a mountain, about 1100 meters above sea level. The chalet-style accommodations are spotless and very comfortable, with heated floors, fireplace, dining table, kitchen, full-size refrigerator, and a wonderful balcony to enjoy crystal clear air and hawks hunting. The buildings opposite the villas are historical reconstructions, displaying beautiful masonry and many stirring artifacts from the region’s history. The dining rooms are beautifully fitted with custom-designed beams, light fixtures, and furniture. The nature is dramatic. From our villa, I followed a rough-cut, switch-back road perfect for hiking, up the mountain for several hours, gaining 300 meters and saw beech trees more than 200 years old by the look of them, wild hazelnuts and dogberry fruit. At each turn, the view into the valley and at neighboring mountain peaks was more dramatic. My friend and I stopped once we reached bee hives to return for dinner with my wife and nephew, who were far too comfortable in our villa to join the hike. This resort has outstanding food! I love recipes that incorporate corn, and the “Sofra” of various corn breads and pudding was amazing. On our first day at the resort, we enjoyed roasted goat and delicious wine from the Rahovec vineyards of Kosova. On our second night I had an exquisite trout, filleted perfectly, while my wife, friend and nephew enjoyed fillet mignon of beef. My wife said it was one of the best she ever ate. Each morning, we feasted on a sumptuous breakfast of eggs, cured meats, farm cheeses & creams, fresh-baked bread and lightly fried pastries accompanied by preserved plums harvested from the resort’s groves. During our stay we were attended to by an eager staff, directed by the resort’s very hospitable owner Sadri and his charming family.

Wow! This place blew us away. The facilities were extremely nice, once of the best places we’ve stayed at in a while. Everything was so clean, the room was very nicely designed, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying here for anyone looking to travel to Peja (and you should visit Peja, it is an amazing city, but that’s for another review). We had a 100% awesome stay!

It was beautifully appointed: antiques everywhere, the bed was comfortable, there were room-darkening blinds (persianas). The restaurant was lovely, relaxing and the food was delicious. We were in Peja for five days and we ate every meal there at DOA because we couldn’t imagine that there could be another restaurant in town with food that was as good or better. Breakfast was included- such a great deal! The staff were professional and very helpful. We had a friend traveling with us who also stayed at DOA. One of the waiters generously loaned him his bike once so he could go for a ride along the river. The woman at the front desk was always friendly and helpful. She reserved a perfect parking spot for us right in front of the property- that spot was available for us throughout all 5 days we were there.
