Bosch Hoek Lodge is located in Balgowan, 109 yards from Boschhoek Club House and 547 yards from Bosch Hoek Dam. Guests can enjoy the on-site bar. We love the thoughtful decor throughout the lodge which enhances the comfort of the surroundings. There are many walks one can do on the property and it is well situated to explore the many options available in the Midlands. The breakfast options are more than enough for the most fussy of visitor. Although the property is less than 500m from the busy N3 highway one is never aware of the traffic noise from the road at all.
Located in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands at the foothills of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg, Granny Mouse’s spa facilities include a pool and a sauna. Friendly staff (including gardeners, reception, restaurant with their supervisor, cleaners, security), cleanliness, tranquility, the spa, great food, places to visit even though some were closed. I was dissappointed by the attitude of Karkloof when I contacted them to find out if they are open.

Located in Balgowan in the KwaZulu-Natal region and Michaelhouse reachable within a 17-minute walk, Gowan Valley Guest Farm provides accommodations with free WiFi, a playground, a shared lounge and... Great breakfast and personal attention by the owners.
Scenic drives. Many restaurants from which to choose and a variety of shops with many locally produced goods. A couple of nice pubs with home brewed beer. Use the Midlands Meander numbered guide and map, and avoid dirt roads that are out of the way
they have a long list of good places to visit with good food served on various restaurants, this is a good place to unwind away from the City life. Really enjoy their wine farms, with variety of things sold that are required by everyone of the family- food, ice cream sale, coffee, light meals, pizza, factory shops
We had the worst experience and we were treated so badly and we were also spoken to in a very rude manner. The guest who were close to our tent confirmed they slept peacefully even though we were forced to pay for some guests who supposedly left because of our noise levels. No communication was made to even make us aware that we were disturbing the neighbours that particular night. We couldn't even have a proper conversation with the owners as she was already on a level that was impossible! We were utterly disappointed to say the least with such treatment
We chose the venue for our anniversary. From the start, Michael communicated with me on email, arranged a special set up for the first night and assisted in arranging for a round of golf. On arriving the staff were professional and friendly. Special mention to the reception team and their head chef Innocent, who went out of his way to make a special dinner and breakfast for us. The facility was great, rooms were comfortable and the location was tranquil. there were great places to visit in and around the area and we made the the most of exploring the areas, stopping at artisan coffee shops and spa facilities. The only negative aspect I can mention is the first morning where the buffet breakfast was average. However for the remainder of the stay, due to minimal guests, we ordered breakfasts and it was exceptional. I would highly recommend Bosch Hoek in Balgowan.
It is definitely on of our favourite places in South Africa, there are plenty of quaint little shops, amazing restaurants, and the scenery is breathtaking. We visit La Lampara restaurant every time we come to the Midlands, which is at least once a year, our trip would not be complete if we didn't, the place, the food, the atmosphere, the owners are such lovely people, you have to go there.
Beautiful landscape and scenery. The Midlands is always worthwhile. It is tragic that the local population have dumped refuse all over the place and that the local council have done nothing to clear it up. What a wonderful opportunity for much needed job creation!
I treated my son to Old Balgowan farm cottage for a night away for his 21st with his sister and 2 mates. He loves the midlands and they had such fun. It was really cold that weekend, and they loved that, because the fireplace was awesome. They had lots of laughs by the cosy fireplace. The cottage was spacious didnt need for anything and bonus they were welcomed with a lovely chocie on their beds....They definately will be back.

The rooms were immaculately clean, with fresh bedding and linen and very comfortable. It was well equipped with a heater, extra blankets and hot water bottles for the cold weekend. Breakfast was lovely. It was perfectly located for a wedding we attended nearby.
Nothando Mbili was exceptional is ensuring we had a memorable experience. She assisted in setting up a different room configuration, sorted out the WiFi and also explained special for the hotel. From my interaction with her - she is excellent!
The view from the room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is in a great location in the Midlands and very central, so it is easy to get to places of interest. The hotel was peaceful and tranquil, and the spa was great.
Breakfast was excellent - best to get there early! I was in Balgowan for the weekend Michaelhouse 125 anniversary, so I literally used Gowan Valley for Breakfast and bed and was out the rest of the time.
Great location in Balgowan with easy access to schools and piggly wiggly. Also great host always communicable.
Lovely scenery surounding the accomodation. We liked the food at the nearest hotel about 5 - 7 Km from stay.
