Pergola Cottage is a lovely place to stay - well-appointed, very clean and perfectly situated for exploring the Borders - the Abbeys, Abbotsford, Traquair House and so forth. And after nearly 2 weeks in B&Bs, it was nice to be able to spread out and have a little more space to ourselves. The bed and furniture were comfy. Having our own equipped kitchen (w/garden view!) and washing machine was especially nice; there’s a small grocer in nearby (and also lovely) Melrose - the Co-Op on High Street - where you can pick up the essentials, like coffee (French Press!).

To be honest everything. Just 2 minutes walk from the centre of Melrose, 5 minutes walk to the river Tweed. To say the cottage has character would be a gross understatement, the name says it all. If it came up for sale I would buy it in a heartbeat. If you are looking for a romantic break to rekindle or start a relationship this is the place.

The house was exactly like it is in the pictures, it's stylish, comfortable and immaculately clean. Since the weather was very wet during my stay, and everything was muddy, I was very happy about the washing machine. The house is a little cold but the heating works very well, and the cosy bedroom can get nice warm. The shower is fantastic: it's clean and spacious. Melrose is a lovely little town, there are nice pubs, restaurants, cafés and different artisan shops there, even a supermarket for food. I loved the garden near the abbey where I could buy home-grown apples and vegetables. The museum and the abbey are fantastic places, very informative and interesting. There are numerous walks around the town, and public transport is excellent! It's an ideal place for both cultural and outdoor activities.
