We stayed on the ground floor in a spacious, beautifully appointed room that preserved the authentic cave atmosphere while offering every thoughtful modern comfort. They lit up a cistern underneath the room and you could peek into it as they placed glass on the floor - made for the most phenomenal night light ever! There was a pocket garden outside our room. David, the receptionist, was exceptionally polite, genuinely helpful, and excellent at giving clear directions for parking and orienting us to the town and its activities. Just outside the hotel, the view over Matera’s old town was nothing short of breathtaking. Breakfast was varied, generous, and consistently excellent. Truly made for a very memorable and magical stay.

Ridola Hotel was designed in 1872 by Leonardo Ridola, a famous local architect. It still has original vaults and pavements, and its façade features a solar clock from the 1900s. The hotel is actually a very nice authentic villa, on good location, cca 10min walk from the Sassi di Matera. It has a guarded private parking (important for Matera). The pool area is very nice for relaxing. The room was nice, well equipped and clean, with good WiFi connection. The breakfast was amazing! And the staff is extremely kind and helpful, as locals they will provide you with all the tips you need. Really a recommendation, especially if traveling by car.

The In Pietra is set in a converted monastery from the 13th century. Today it offers a large hall, a reading room and a wine cellar. A truly unique and memorable stay—our first time sleeping in a cave! Francesco was so warm and welcoming, greeting us with coffee and croissants and sharing a map to walk us through Matera’s rich history and must-see spots. The cave itself was a beautiful loft-style flat, cozy yet spacious. Such a special experience—we’re so glad we stayed here!

Air-conditioned rooms all feature a flat-screen satellite TV, a seating area and fully fitted private bathroom with a shower. L'Arturo B&B was centrally located in the picturesque old town of Matera with wonderful views over the sassi. Arturo and Monica were wonderful hosts - incredibily kind and helpful and went out of their way to assist us with taxis and recommendations for restaurants. Monica warned us beforehand not to bring big suitcases as there are many stairs down to the guest house. They kindly helped us with our luggage. The decoration of the room was quirky and modern and contrasted with the beautiful and well renovated old building Our room was very spacious with a nice terrace with a table and chairs. Restaurants and shops were all within walking distance from the guest house. The breakfast on the terrace with a view was scrumptious with fresh pastries, bread, cheeses, tomatoes,fruit, cereals, jogurt,milk ,coffee, water, and juice - so much to choose from. Popular points of interest nearby include Convent of Sant' Agostino, Church of San Pietro Barisano and Church of San Giovanni Battista. The guest house features family rooms. The location was ideal to explore the old town. The room was nice and clean, comfortable with lots of amenities, even espresso machine, has a cosy indoor balcony. The hostess is a wonderful lady that suggested and pointed us out all the sightseeings and the way to access them. She also offered us her parking lot to leave our motorbikes.
