We loved the design of this hotel. It was like Ethan Allen had had a hand in decorating the public spaces - it was so perfectly boho British Colonial. We loved the cozy bar and the lush plantings on the grounds of the hotel. Also loved the breezeway with the coy pond on the way to the bar and restaurant. Our room was very comfortable. The staff was laid back while still being professional. We have stayed in many places in South Africa that were super-duper deluxe. We liked that The Residence felt more homey and comfortable without being over the top.

PERFECT hotel!!! 5-star feeling, truly!!! Historical site (Mandela’s house during his presidential years, beautifully renovatex). super exciting to get to stay there and see all of the carefully curated pieces of art around Nelson Mandela’s life and history. Easy to get cabs and uber around it. Very comfortable beds, AMAZING food and bar. Super friendly staff. Simply surreal experience, can’t recommend it enough!

In a beautiful mansion turned into a great villa. Villa Simone has beautiful gardens and rooms. The staff is very accomodating. They have fabulous food at their restaurant or have nice recommendations for dinner outside. I can't recommend it more.
