GREAT Location near the tropical forest preserves and the Sarapiqui River, right near the Best Chocolate Farm, where we also took a night hike, and just down the road from Aventuras del Sarapiqui (excellent whitewater rafting). It's a private house off the main road and I was worried about dogs barking as mentioned in some other reviews, but it was not a problem at all. It's a split level with two separate sleeping spaces, king bed in upstairs room and queen bed in the downstairs room, each having their own bathroom with showers. The main kitchen/dining area was great for preparing easy meals: rice and beans for dinners and fried egg sandwiches for breakfast. And best of all is our host, Maria who has been SO accommodating and friendly. We just message each other through WhatsApp (I use Google Translate to convert from her Spanish to my English). It's not a luxury hotel but instead a very artistically decorated two bedroom apartment and I highly recommend.

This "Guest House" is huge. A family of 4+ could easily move in here and live comfortably. The back decks are beautiful to just sit and watch the jungle. It is a little way down the road from the city, which means it is quiet and very laid back. I had both a breakfast and a dinner while at the guest house. Both were great portions with a lot of variety, tasty, and well worth the money. Unfortunately, my schedule and Wendy's schedule didn't align for her bird tour. There was lots of flora and fauna to explore. My personal sightings included Toucans and a Morpha butterfly. I'm willing to bet that there was a lot I missed that Wendy could have found and shared!

I felt like I had a good sense of this incredible destination from other reviews and was not disappointed. It's stunning and well-worth the rugged journey. The views are breath-taking and the wildlife abundant, from the 3 toucans who greeted us outside the bedroom window on our arrival, to the howler monkeys, cows, and countless other birds and creatures. We stayed two nights with our college-aged children and planned for a rest day on the property in between, but there was too much right there to see and explore for any resting! Our horseback riding tour was a highlight-- calm and confident horses and friendly capable guides-- I highly recommend. The night tour through the jungle was fascinating for most of us, and slightly frightening for one of us. ;-) We were well taken care-of, generous hospitality, and delicious meals. Our entire Costa Rican experience was amazing, and Mirador Prendas was the top of the list.

The property was very simple but it was everything we needed. The water pressure and temperature was good, the bed was comfortable, the food was good, the WiFi worked, the staff was friendly. The location was incredible. It really was a unique experience. The guided tours were really cool. We saw howler and spider monkeys, five different snakes, all sort of frogs, many birds. The guide was really knowledgeable and Pedro was super helpful. I would absolutely recommend staying here to someone.

Gabriel and Irene offer an unforgettable experience! They, along with their family, were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The view of the river is absolutely breathtaking, and being able to hear the soothing sounds of the water from inside the room made for the most peaceful sleep. One highlight of our stay was the delicious, traditional Costa Rican lunch Irene prepared for us—it was such a treat! The accommodations are even better than described. While listed as an "apartment," it feels more like a charming private bungalow, offering both comfort and privacy. If you're considering a stay here, don’t hesitate—you won’t be disappointed! It’s truly a hidden gem that you have to experience.

We had a fantastic stay (including 2 kids of 5 and 8y old) with Wendy and her family. Very friendly family. The mother of Wendy cooked a fantastic diner and breakfast. We did the horse riding and frog tour. Both were amazing! Would defenitly come back here.

Impressive complex with spacious rooms and great shower facilities, with great location close to river and forest. As a single traveller who usually stays in smaller cosier places, I found the La Selva to be unsurprisingly aimed at wealthier international couples and families and thus didn't find it that friendly, but that's perhaps inevitable and not a disrespect to La Selva.

My husband and I loved the privacy of staying in a rustic house on a private property. We were able to order home-cooked meals that were delivered and served to us without having to leave the premises. Birds everywhere and a beautiful hike down to an awesome waterfall topped off the experience (see pics). Thank you, Wendy and family!

Gardens are stunning - full of beautiful flowers attracting in loads of birds. Howler monkeys in trees (worlds best alarm clock!), nice trails to walk around. Swimming pool was welcome addition! Staff are great and came up with some great recommendations for trips - butterfly garden (soooo good and includes bonus chocolate tour - small, organic and personal) green rivers kayak (small group, fun guides) , titimbina night walk (epic!). Nice home cooked food if you want it.
