This place is amazing. If you want to go to Wilpattu National Park, this is the perfect accommodation. We booked The Sanctuary half an hour before arriving and we were warmly greeted at the door by the owner Siraj. Siraj's passion for environmental protection is incredible. His knowledge of the ecology of the area is huge. Siraj and his team provided us with first class hospitality, beautiful food and a fully organized safari we will never forget (for a very competitive price). Extras like plentiful home grown bananas, a night tour of the grounds (seeing flying foxes and mouse deer) and free photos of what we saw on safari were the icing on the cake. It was a privilege to have stayed at The Sanctuary and we left enriched. I would not hesitate to return here in future.

Close to the secondary gate to Wilpattu, very friendly staff and nice surroundings of the rooms! It does take a while to get into the park and we felt we didn’t see many animals in the first stretch, so book a full day safari to not be disappointed. Only comment is that I realized they charge a 10% service charge on the entire bill, including the room fees, which led to us paying close to 25 euros in service charges, which is a lot.

The property is truly unique in this area and gives jungle vibes. Also the owner (which has been at the resort during our stay) is very caring that you are feeling welcome and making your stay accordingly to your wishes. To name just a few benefits: you can tell when you want to have breakfast. Even in the middle of the night at 5am we asked the owner via whats app if it would be possible to postpone the breakfast to 1pm and it was not a problem at all. Also don’t be shy to ask for room service cleaning or new towels or more toilet paper. They are very happy to provide you with all the necessities, just communicate. The cook is great and the food was beyond, we liked the Rice and Curry and the variation they did just to please us. With that being said, they are trying their very best and we loved our stay there. We stayed there 1 week and did kite surfing at the nearby Kapalady Lagoon at Kite Buddies (10/10 kite school!!)!

Living with Susantha and his family at Sun Wind Beach Kite Resort and Kite School Kalpitiya is an experience in itself... Susantha is determined to give his guests a genuine Sri Lankan family atmosphere, where his mom cooks for all of us and we all live a wonderful life together in a coconut plantation, without luxury in nature. If you add to all this the great kitesurfing field of Kalpitiya, along with what Susantha has to offer and its cousins to those who learn to kitesurf then we are talking about an incredible paradise. I am an intermediate kiter, so I needed lessons. However, what I saw is his students succeeding from zero to hero within 4 days. As for experienced kiters. Don't expect green water but expect steady winds from both flat water and open ocean chop with big waves. As for the cons? Yes, there are those too. The wider area is marshy. Therefore mosquitoes attack in bursts. Otherwise everything is good... Genuine Sri Lankan atmosphere untouched by tourism. Family environment and excellent conditions for learning kitesurfing. Don't distance yourself. I personally left there on 15-02-2025 and I am already dreaming of my return on 18-05-2025. Susantha I can't wait!
