A Grimm Fairytale
Although known for the Nuremberg Trials, this Bavarian city has a stunning medieval core of cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings that wouldn’t look out of place in a fairytale. Sitting above this is the castle, one of the most important in the Holy Roman Empire. Take the steep walk up here for fantastic old town views.
Hauptmarkt square in the old town is home to an unusual-looking church and a Gothic fountain, spectacularly lit during the annual Nuremberg Christmas markets. Selling everything from wooden toys to lebkuchen (gingerbread), these are widely considered the best Christmas markets in Germany.
Other attractions in Nuremberg (Nürnberg in German) include the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, the country’s largest museum of culture and art. Another highlight is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, a medieval hospital by the Pegnitz River.
A word must also be said about its relationship with Nazism. On the south-east corner are the immense Nazi Rally Grounds and Party Congress Hall, built in appropriately domineering fashion. The excellent Documentation Centre here is a sensitive and unbiased portrayal of life under Hitler. It is also possible to visit the courtroom where the war trials were held.
Before leaving your Booking.com apartment, hotel or hostel to go to Nuremberg Airport, don’t forget to try the spicy local sausage!

If you love medieval architecture, walled Nuremberg is a jewel. Easy to spend about 2 days here, maybe three, roaming the steets and bridges, the castle and grazing your way through town lol. Beautiful city - much of it reconstructed after WWII but some original. It has all been reconstructed very sensitively to try & look as it did & the medieval style buildings are so pretty & we'll cared for with wonderful flower boxes in the summer period. Lovely atmosphere in the old town & great restaurants & bars. Lots of history & culture to explore! Very friendly & welcoming staff in restaurants.

You can 'do' Nurnberg in a couple of days, in my view. We only had an overnight stop, never enough to do justice tor anywhere, but by taking a sightseers' tour we got the gist then had a good meal in the evening. Nuremberg is a lovely and very scenic little city. I took a thousand photos of memorable traditional sights. Everything is within walking distance and people are quite friendly in general. Well-located and easy to find. They have a restaurant on the ground floor which serves delicious food. Quiet and clean. The price per night was a little expensive but considering the Interzoo exhibition was a good deal. No coffee or tea facilities sadly. Also, the lift was not working. Was there during a street music festival, at which it felt like the entire town gathered on the streets of the Old Town - great atmosphere and even better, it took 2 minutes to reach the hotel :) Plus, once the windows were closed, it was really quiet, so the partying on the street which kept going late in the night did not bother at all. The fact that the hotel has its own parking garage is great!

It’s spotless, charming, comfortable, staffed by the nicest people and about half the price of everything else nearby. The only negative was that my room was not air conditioned, but that’s rarely a problem in Nurnberg. During the daytime, the room was still comfortably cool and nights with the windows open were Heaven. There was little traffic or noise from the street just below.
