Very good value, especially with simple breakfast included. Fully equipped kitchen made it even better along with usage of the lounge with the log burner they had put on just for us. Honesty bar as well. Overall, excellent

Set amongst fields of sunflowers and the famous Cognac vineyards. Les Cygnes Noirs is a family friendly, hotel quality, Chambre d’hotes, run by a very attentive and welcoming host. Perfectly located for visiting the historic towns of Cognac and Saintes, as well as the wider Charante-Maritime area. Les Cygnes Noirs sits in the hamlet of Le Grand Moulin, offering peace and tranquillity to our guests.

Neighborhood info

No visit to the Charante-Maritime would be complete without seeing the site’s of Cognac or Saintes. Cognac, as the name suggests, is the place for Brandy lovers. All of the prestige houses are here, with tours available during the summer months. Smaller distilleries are common across the region, and one of the best, L’Ecomusee Du Cognac is only 5 minutes from Les Cygnes Noirs. For those looking for something different, Cognac offers other attractions from visits to the Château Royal de Cognac, Eglise Saint-Leger Cognac or why not paddle board on the Charante river. Saintes, sitting on the banks of the Charente, was the Roman capital of the Aquitaine and boasts architectural remains including The Arch of Germanicus, an Amphitheatre and the Baths of Saint Saloine. In the city centre, you will find the Saint-Pierre cathedral and other historical buildings. A climb to the belvedere on the cliff, leaves you overlooking the town and surrounding meadows. On the river itself, you can take any one of many leisure cruises or hire a boat for yourself. If all of this seems too much why not stroll along the bank or simply sit near the local fishermen and let the Charante wash past.
