We consider that the merits of the town were over inflated.
We consider that the merits of the town were over inflated. Many of the museums and places of interest were shut in whole or in part in preparation for the festival. It was not relaxing and it was unpleasant to eat out because the restaurants were over crowded and crammed into the squares and other open spaces. Best avoided (and presumably more so during the festival).

We have come to A-en-P from Avignon and have found city more...
We have come to A-en-P from Avignon and have found city more vibrant, much cleaner and generally more pleasant to be in. We have been there for few days only, to short to have a solid opinion, but the shops, the street markets, the people, and the feeling how the old town lives, all of that was pleasant. We would like to come back and learn more.

Really varied community with modern and historical sections, lovely tree-lined streets, surprisingly high-end shopping district and street side cafes great for people watching. A super base for exploring the region. We stayed in a quiet villa a short drive from town and enjoyed the sounds of birds in the morning, frogs at night, big starry skies, and a private pool, for a fabulous price.

Aix en Provence is a stunning lace to visit.
Aix en Provence is a stunning lace to visit. The design of the city centre lends itself to events such as wonderful markets - daily in different city squares - and huge events over several days, such as the arrival of the Olympic torch, an Iron Man festival - huge - and a display of cars (my French is limited, but I had the impression that the cars were new types of energy-efficient models). I was so impressed that I thought of suggesting that my hometown councilors come over and see how Aix en Provence is organized. There was so much that they could earn about creating a vibrant city.

For me, Aix-en-Provence is a little bit overrated.
For me, Aix-en-Provence is a little bit overrated. It's nice, but I would not say is really charming. Students are everywhere - and that's nice, they are enjoying bars and adding a good vibe. Other than this, some areas looks dead - maybe is just because the vacation season did not started yet?
Anyway, overall, for me Avignon is better than Aix

Nice city if you can access it.
Nice city if you can access it. We took the local train from Marseille and no taxi showed up for over 45 minutes. We finally walked to the hotel, which wasn't easy after a 3+ hour train ride. Just be prepared ahead with taxi co. phone number...Great town for foodies and drinkers..Three days are plenty. Plan excursions out of town to make the best of the area.

I will be back in Aix only to stay again at this hotel. It is the adorable staff that makes the whole difference there. During my stay I interacted with four different receptionists, and each one genuinely care for your comfort. On the top of it, the decoration, cleanliness, bed, breakfast, cocktails, coffee and location are excellent. This hotel greatly exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Hotel Escaletto, and thank you to each of the stuff (I only remember the name of Elise, but the entire staff is all awesome).
Good quiet location. It is a cozy little apartment in the outskirts of Aix en Provence . You need a car to get to city center. Not sure of how close was the bus station as I had my own car . The hosts are super friendly and easy to talk to in french or in english.
The place is pretty small but we did not mind as we stayed only 2 nights. It had everything you need : air conditioner, kitchen facilities, TV and so on.
Good accomodation to stay in the morning and enjoy your coffee as you make your day city sightseeing plan.
Our hostess / concierge, Camille, was fantastic. I would hire her in a second. Our room was spacious, clean and beautifully appointed. The Maison is centrally located in the old town and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.
I would stay there again. However next time, I would not take a car. The hotel does not offer parking and it took us 2 hours to find a public garage that wasn't full.
Location, location, location - the apartment is in the middle of old town Aix. Few steps to Cours Mirabeau and surrounded by restaurants, shops, and cafes.
The host Jean-Philippe met me upon arrival and was very hospitable. He assisted me with my luggage and showed me around the apartment.
The apartment is very spacious and well equipped.
The Washing machine in the apartment was a big plus.
A very characterful hotel with lots of old fashioned charm. Our room was absolutely lovely - beautiful soft furnishings and old wooden furniture and a delightful view over Aix and nearby mountains, We had a superb breakfast in a very beautiful dining room. The staff were lovely. Finally, it was very conveniently located in a quiet, attractive street in the old town.
Perfect.
the property is in a good location, easy walk into the historic centre of Aix en Provence. The front staff were very attentive at check in and directed us to a safe lock up location for our bikes as we were on a biking holiday.
Good breakfast room with good breakfast offerings although the lay out of the buffet could have better flow to eliminate a lot of going back and forth.
Truly lovely apartment, with everything one might need. Nicely decorated, comfortable beds, with two real bedrooms that are air conditioned. Very charming, and in an excellent location in the heart of the old town. Surrounded by fantastic little restaurants and cafes and top notch shopping. Aix’s famous farmers and flower markets right around the corner!
A superb hotel right in the centre of Aix en Provence. Everything is walking distance from the hotel. We stayed in the suite on the top floor which was magnificent with lovely views of the lush garden and environment. Margherita, Anthony and Ines were really welcoming and helpful. We would highly recommend this lovely hotel and would definitely stay again.
Perfect spot to visit aix!!! You need to walk a little to old town (20-25 min), but it's a nice walk and the stay at Lousoan is exceptional: The hosts were more than kind, we had some great conversations. Also the room and the facilities were very beautiful, clean etc!!! The breakfast was the best we had in France!!! Thanks a lot for your hospitality!!!
The hotel is easy to drive too, just off the autoroute and with good car parking.
The staff were friendly, helpful, and many spoke good English.
The restaurant was good, a short menu but food well prepared and nicely presented. Breakfasts were also very good.
The hotel is about 30 minutes walk from Aix old centre and is also on a bus route into town.
This old hotel is in the center of AIX, so it is at the center of the action. The room was small and very basic but it was in town. Parking was difficult, a place nearby that was hard to get to, and hard to find. But you could get a flavor of the town by looking out the window and the huge beautiful town fountain square was a minute walk away.
everybody was friendly and welcoming. We stayed here as our base to visit Provence. The hotel is a 20 mins walk into Aix Centre however there's also a bus stop a 2 mins walk away. Can't fault this hotel at all and would definitely recommend.
The standard of cleanliness was outstanding. Also, the recommendation for the local restaurant was excellent, and the hotel is just a short walk to the centre of the beautiful Aix-en-Provence. We'll definitely be staying here again.
Hotel is lovely, has everything you need and a nice pool. Close to the centre of Aix which has loads of bars and restaurants. Staff very helpful and on site parking. Would stay there again for sure.
Beautiful apt with a private terrace. Plenty of space, comfy bed. Hostess was wonderful, helpful, kind, funny and available. Would return to here anytime I come back to Aix en Provence.
