Kirkcudbright is a well-established base for art lovers, with numerous galleries and is known locally as 'Artists Town'. Every year the recently established Kirkcudbright Galleries hosts a major exhibition of visiting art work.A short walk from the house is the National Trust for Scotland's Broughton House and garden, the former home of artist E.A. Hornel, Historic Scotland's McClellan Castle and the romantic Greyfriars Church together with the bustling life of Kirkcudbright Harbour and Marina. The town offers a variety of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants all within walking distance. The popular Summer Festivities Programme run throughout the summer months and one is never short of things to do in and around the town, with events such as the Scottish Nights in the Harbour Square on a Thursday evening and the annual Tattoo at the end of August. There are superb sandy beaches within easy reach, numerous golf courses and wonderful walking and cycling opportunities in this unspoilt area. Children are very welcome.
