We booked late notice after being let down for our original accommodation for the Great North Run. Not too far from Newcastle, less than an hour, but if you're looking for a getaway then the location is lovely. Really quiet and out of the way. The facilities are excellent, the property is on 3 floors, 1 en suite bedroom, the shower is great and the bed comfortable, plenty of storage space. All you need in the kitchen for an extended stay. The lounge is comfortable and has a balcony but we didn't really use it much. There is an area to sit outside to eat or enjoy the view. Parking is off road. It may be worth noting the What3Words entrance for the parking is earphones.icon.rungs

The bedrooms consist of a second-floor double with en-suite shower room and a second-floor 4’ double, along with a bathroom. Outside there is front patio with picnic table, as well as off-road parking for four cars. Within 0.3 miles you will find a shop and a pub and please note that this is a pet-free and non-smoking property. WiFi, fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the rent. 4 Alpha Rise is a lovely escape for a family holiday in Cumbria. Note: The front patio is not enclosed. Note: There are two sets of stairs within the property which may not be suitable for guests with lower mobility. Note: Property only accepts a check in on a Friday.

Neighborhood info

On the boundary of Northumberland and Cumbria, Gilsland is a little community with two pubs and a tea room. The Eden Valley, the Scottish Borders, the north Pennines, and even as far south west as the Lake District National Park are all easily accessible from its Hadrian's Wall location. About 10 miles of Gilsland are Vindolanda, known for its reconstruction of a Roman village and its parchment inscriptions, and Housesteads Roman Fort. Blenkinsopp, Thirlwall, Bellister, and Bewcastle are just a few of the nearby castle remains. It takes only 15 minutes to get to the charming market town of Brampton, and it takes 30 minutes to get to Carlisle. Visit Cumbria or the Lake District National Park for a fantastic day excursion. Wide panoramic views of the Roman Wall, which follows the Whin Sill cliff, and other beautiful landscapes make this tranquil region of England a treat for walkers and cyclists.
