The property was immaculate and the hosts Janine and Richard very friendly and helpful. There was a lovely hamper of goodies on our arrival so we had a lovely breakfast both days and lovely chocolate brownies to have with cup of tea after our day...

The Cart Lodge is an exceptionally clean and well presented property. A beautiful and thoughtfully designed conversion with 2 distinct areas that worked extremely well for us with 2 couples. The hosts were lovely to us.

Janine and Richard
The property is ideal for groups of friends or family who want to be together but also want a little independence. The 2 rooms in the barn are independently accessed. The upstairs room is reached by an external staircase, there is no internal staircase. Situated on the edge of the pretty medieval cloth town of Long Melford, the barn combines modern comfort with an impressive historical pedigree. It sits adjacent to The Old Cottage, a charmingly wonky Tudor house, dating back to the 1430s, occupied by hosts Janine and Richard. There are plenty of beautiful walks and fascinating places to visit nearby, including medieval Lavenham, the old market town of Sudbury with is fabulous Gainsborough museum, and Bury St Edmunds and its fine Abbey. The ground floor studio of the barn provides a comfortable and stylish space for 1 to 2 people. It benefits from a newly installed underfloor heating system, and is divided by a partition into a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom area with a double bed, and lounge space that looks out onto the garden through bifold doors. There is also an ensuite shower room and WC. The upstairs room is a lovely, light space for 1-2 more people, and has a separate entrance from the downstairs studio, up a flight of external stairs. There is a double bed and ensuite bathroom with over-bath shower and WC. It has tea and coffee-making facilities, fridge, kettle and toaster. Both rooms have free Wifi and a Smart TV, where you can log into your streaming accounts or watch various free channels. There are no terrestrial TV channels. As well as the private use of the decking area, accessed from the ground floor, guests are welcome to use part of the garden that includes a lily pond, gazebo, BBQ and hammock. Off road parking is available for up to 2 vehicles. Complimentary tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits are provided.
Janine and Richard are your hosts. We are keen for out guests to enjoy their stay and will be available in person or email should you need any help. We are happy to chat to you or give you your privacy. We have some knowledge of the area which we can share with you if you would like. There is a house manual with details of local attractions for you to peruse when you arrive. Children are welcome, but we do not have any specific equipment for children. As the top floor is separate from the bottom floor, it would not be suitable for young children to be left upstairs alone. The accommodation has space for a cot in both rooms.
Long Melford with its enormous sweep of sloping green, 15th century church and the longest high street in England, was recently voted one of the top ten most desirable villages to live in. Packed with historic properties and a vibrant community life, it is easy to see why..... Long Melford's wide boulevard- style high street, meets all your basic shopping needs. In addition, there are several antique shops, tea shops, pubs, galleries, and a deli, serving delicious home- cooked food. All this can be found just a 12-minute walk from the barn. Nethergate brewery, selling craft beers and gin is on the outskirts of Long Melford, close to the country park. The popular Willow Tree Farm Shop and Cafe, is just a few minutes' drive away, and a little further on are the pretty villages of Cavendish and Clare. There are attractive field walks moments away from the barn and a sign posted route along a disused railway track. The village boasts not one, but two stately homes - Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall - both built in the Tudor period. The app, DiscoverSuffolk, will enable you to access plenty of interesting trails for both walking and cycling. The area is also popular with cyclists, and we are happy to provide storage for bicycles.
