Newark can easily be covered in a weekend.
Newark can easily be covered in a weekend. The National Civil War centre is worth a quick visit as part of the town Civil War Trail. A good range of pubs, bars and eateries and quite a few independent shops and boutiques. Elements of the town are sadly in decline but, with the river, it's still picturesque enough to explore and wander.

It was just a break of journey for us, but there are many dining options a short drive away. We were also told as we left that if we fancied a take away of some sort, we could arrange delivery and Shaan and Sef would set up a table for us to eat it there in comfort. We may well try that next time we stop.

when we arrived we were not very impressed , but after parking and having a nice breakfast we found the town square , then every thing opened up . It was a nice surprise to see what was the market place surrounded by shops . we also had a lovely evening meal in the Ram pub , the food was very good and the service could not have been better. We found that Newark had a lot of history and shall be going back to see more . Would recomend.

Wonderful town to explore.
Wonderful town to explore. Great places to eat and drink and historic places to visit. Plenty of places to stay over and highly recommend the Newark guest house which although just outside of Newark it is only a ten minute taxi drive away. It is a beautiful place to stay.

Excellent value for money. Location superb for our needs. A place to rest close to the A1 with no noise.
Breakfast was great with fresh fruit, fruit juice, plentiful coffee, tea and a cooked to order breakfast. No buffet breakfast here.
Messaged ahead to advise the guest house of our late evening arrival time. Was messaged back straight away and they accommodated our request.
The service is excellent and the lodge amazing. Far from a sterile, cloned room from a hotel chain.
Beautiful Apartment in a private stunning setting. The apartment was spotlessly clean, large, had character, very well equiped for all your needs travelling with thoughtful touches. Bed, linen & fluffy White soft towels were better than most expensive hotels. The hosts communication was clear, accomadating & easy instructions to access the apartment. I had a wonderful stay & wouldn't hesitate highly recommending it.
Usually stay in hotel chains but tried this for a change. This lodge is stunning, quaint and unique, it feels remote yet very central to Balderton. The bed was comfortable, room very clean even down to remote controls being in plastic bags. Than the breakfast. Breakfast looked the part but the quality of the produce was obvious. The tea making fasciitis’ in the room was varied with good quality tea and large cups.
Clean and you didn’t hear noise from other rooms. Good quality furnishings. Car parking on site.
My husband enjoyed the cooked breakfast. Maybe a vegetarian sausage could be added to the no meat breakfast as many of us vegetarians don’t eat eggs either. Plenty of choice of cereals.
Everything in the rooms worked including the bedside lights which is often a problem in B&Bs and hotels.
Gail was the one who received me. She listened and helped me out with everything. She went to the extent of finding and booking cabs for me for every day i stayed successfully. Also, when i had to extend my stay she made sure to sort it out for me even though it was a fully booked hotel the next day. i cant thank enough all the staff for their amazing welcoming. the food was very good.
Was great to sit on the top deck in the morning with a cuppa in the sun and relax with my wife. Close to town centre but so quiet you wouldn't know it you could be miles away from anywhere it was a clear night so was great to sit with a glass of wine and star gaze. Better then a usual hotel or guest house which would have cost more without the privacy and experience.
The breakfast was bad the room was bad there was blood on the table in the room the carpets was mucky bed sheets was not ironed shower we only had two small shampoo we took pictures and I will be telling people not to stay there I putting it on the net this week might even go to the Newark papers and tell them about your hotel 👎👎
Lime House is in the perfect place to get to the train and bus stations and into town. Andy, the host, couldn't be more friendly and helpful, and his tips for places to see were great. The extra space and privacy of having a house rather than a hotel room was great for the day I had to work from there, too.
This hotel is the best hotel iv ever stayed in... the staff was amazing and really put amazing effort into making sure we had the best stay.. the room we stayed in was immaculate... 100% satisfaction for me and newly wed wife... thanks for letting us stay at your amazing hotel..
Lovely traditional English pub with friendly staff , beautiful location and wonderful food. I would normally stay at standard chain hotels but this was a far better unique experience with a friendly personal touch. Highly recommended.
Very clean, cosy and close to the Newark Showgrounds. The warmth and friendliness of Sheila and her staff was absolutely wonderful. If you are attending anything in Newark it is a fantastic location.
Stunning cottage in a very peaceful location. Great location for Newark showground. Perfect size of solo travellers or couples. Facilities were perfect. Enclosed garden perfect for the dog!
The hotel was in a good location very near the centre of Newark. There was plenty of parking on site. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bathroom was clean and modern.
Hotel / staff / Newark exellent very enjoyable stay will definitely be back hopefully by then the kitchen & restaurant will be open to make it an even more enjoyable stay m
Tanya is an excellent hostess. She is welcoming and serviceable. I will recommend her to any relative and friends visiting Nottingham, and Newark on trent in particular.
Breakfast was very nice and location was perfect as I was attending an event at the Newark Showground, so only just down the road. Nice, quiet surroundings too.
Really nice and comfortable and a 10/15 minute walk into town, handy for events in the showground. Easy parking and fairly quiet, we enjoyed our stay thanks 😊
