The Annex is a new luxury holiday apartment which was totally refurbished in April 2019. It offers self-contained, one-bed-roomed accommodation originally designed for our daughter to live in. The Annex is a totally separate part of our house (Highmead), and has its own private entry gate, patio area and private part of our sun deck with stunning views across the Exe Estuary towards Dartmoor. We have installed a key safe so that our guests can check-in late if they need to. If our guests need any assistance, we are usually right next door or easily contactable by phone. The Annex is ideally suited to people who prefer the added freedom of self-catering accommodation. The apartment is a generous size (see floor plan) offering a kitchen-diner with room to comfortably seat 4 adults. The lounge is also a generous size with a large picture window overlooking the Exe. There is a small sofa-bed in the lounge and we may accept a third person but only by prior arrangement please. We welcome guests with dogs as our location is perfect for dog walks.
We have lived in Exton since 2011 and our daughter and her partner vacated The Annex in 2019 after many happy years. We love the sense of country living we have and the fantastic views that we enjoy every day. We also love to walk and cycle along the Exe Estuary Trail and really appreciate having such great communication links. We often socialize in Exmouth, Exeter, Lympstone and Topsham and when we do, we usually just hop on the train at Exton station. Our dog, Nelly, really loves the open fields and the variety of walks on our doorstep. We also take her to Exmouth beach several times a week. We welcome well-behaved dogs to The Annex as it is a great location for all sorts of dog activities. We charge an additional 5 pounds per night per dog payable on check-out. Our dog policy and rules are clearly displayed on our website and are included on the back of our welcome letter.
Staying at The Annex means that you can see a lot of Devon, rather than just a little of it. Despite its country location, it is just a short walk (an even shorter cycle) from the local pub/restaurant, train station, bus stop and The Exe Estuary Trail. The trail is a purpose-built track which follows the route of the River Exe and the Exeter Shipping Canal. It is (mainly) flat, safe and easy to navigate and the views are fantastic. We provide two complimentary bikes to give you the opportunity to explore the Exe Estuary Trail. Cycle, walk, take the train or bus, and see as much of Devon as your time permits. Exeter, Devon’s historic capital, is a 40-minute cycle away or twenty minutes by train. Exmouth, which has the longest beach in Devon, is also 30-minutes away by bike and 15 minutes by train. Fifteen minutes cycling (5 minutes by train) in either direction brings you to Lympstone or Topsham. Lympstone is a characterful estuary fishing village and Topsham is a small town with historic Dutch trading links. Alternatively, relax on The Annex sun-deck and watch the world go by while enjoying a glass of wine!
