The cottage was really well equipped and very cosy and comfortable. There was a lovely plate of freshly baked scones with jam and cream to welcome us. Also, the owners had provided all those little extras that it's so easy to forget. Everything...

Church Farm is situated on a quiet lane and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our spacious two bedroom cottage sits on one side of an historic former farmyard overlooking the 16th century farmhouse. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated from the old stables and now provides characterful and comfortable accommodation. The Stables cottage accommodation consists of a well equipped open plan kitchen-dining room with double aspect windows and original oak beams. There is a downstairs cloakroom with sink and WC. The large lounge is through a glazed door and is comfortably furnished and has attractive exposed beams and a glazed wall onto the shared courtyard. An oak staircase leads upstairs where there is a large bedroom with king-sized bed and a cosy twin room. The bathroom has a full size bath with shower over. There is a separate WC. A door from the living room leads to the large games barn with indoor table tennis and table football, to enjoy on those (rare) occasions when the weather is too inclement to go exploring. Guests are welcome to sit in the shared sunny courtyard and to access the extensive wooded gardens for exploring and dog walking. The gardens are enclosed but please be aware that a determined dog could find a way out! Off road parking for 1 car is available immediately adjacent to the cottage, and there is space for another car in an adjacent field. There is ample parking on the quiet road immediately outside. Dogs are welcome to stay in the Stables only by prior request and we ask that you do not allow them upstairs and that you use the throws provided if they get on the sofas. We live in the house on the opposite side of the courtyard. We aim to greet you on arrival and are around should you need us, but otherwise we will leave you to yourselves.
After retiring from our NHS and education jobs, we decided to move from Bristol in 2020 in order to live in the Wye Valley and set up our B&B business. We have not looked back since - this place is everything we hoped for and more besides. We are now very busy with village life, gardening, hosting and grandparent duties and aim to walk from the door most days into our beautiful surroundings. Melane is also a Nordic walking instructor and enjoys leading walks for beginners and experienced Nordic walkers alike. We love to share this wonderful place with guests from around the world.
We are within a two minute walk of The George pub which has good food and often hosts live music, and of the tiny village shop, which sells a large range of staples and local produce. The village also boasts a large recreation ground with well maintained playground (including zip wire!), outdoor gym, tennis court, table tennis and a cricket pitch. Our home and gardens are surrounded by beautiful mixed woodland perched high up above the Wye Valley on the edge of the historic village of St Briavels. We are situated right by the ancient castle and the church and are a two minute walk from The George Inn. We are also very close to the wonderful Forest of Dean with its rich flora & fauna and industrial heritage. Our location is unique, positioned as we are on the edge of the village with a footpath from the door into the Wye Valley and backed by the historic castle and church of St Briavels. There is so much to see and do from the door that you don’t need to get into a car unless you want to explore further afield. Or you can just kick back and relax in a comfortable, historic farmhouse setting surrounded by woodland, but close to amenities. St Briavels is at the centre of excellent walking country. There is a public footpath running through the lower part of the garden, which leads to a myriad of circular walks into the Wye Valley and the Severn Vale beyond through woods and fields. Offa's Dyke Path, the Wye Valley Walk, Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way are all within walking distance from the door. We offer Nordic walking tuition and guided walks through the local countryside, many of them from our front door. It is a short drive to the magnificent Forest of Dean and there are many family attractions nearby such as Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Perrygrove Railway and Tintern Abbey. There are also ample opportunities for outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing and paddle-boarding on the River Wye, off-road cycling in the Forest and tree climbing at Go-Ape.
