Budleigh Salterton has a long pebble beach extending for 2.5 miles along the Jurassic Coast, from Littleham Cove to the west, to Otterhead in the east, where the River Otter meets the sea. Bathing is safe and the water clear, families can relax here, with the beach side cafes, beach huts (which are available for hire by the day or week from the TIC) and the rocks at Ottermouth giving parents and children plenty to explore. The beach facilities include: 3 Beach Cafes; Fishing; Lime Kiln Car park; Children’s Play area; Seafront with level walking; Toilets for the disabled; Dogs allowed on parts of the beach May to Sep and Part of the South West Coast Path. The Budleigh Salterton coastline forms the western most section of the Jurassic coast, and the cliffs on either side of the town are the unique Red Devonian Sandstone. Budleigh Salterton has a breathtaking bay within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Budleigh lies at the mouth of the River Otter, where the estuary forms an area of reed bed and grazing marsh, an important haven for migratory birds and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Budleigh is also on the South West Coast Path, with clifftop routes eastward to Sidmouth and westward to Exmouth. As you might expect from a historic fishing town, Budleigh Salterton is known for the quality of its fish and seafood. More than that, like many of the communities in East Devon, the people here are proud of the diverse and top-quality produce that can be found here, which is why much of the food and drink you can find here is locally sourced. You can often see local fisherman landing their hard-caught catch on the beach and then selling the freshest of fish and seafood. Budleigh Salterton remains one of Devon’s most unspoilt towns, containing many interesting shops and attractions - so you can spend a day or longer in this beautiful town.
