Following many years working overseas, John & Mair Vincent returned home to Wales and settled in the market town of Abergavenny, close to the English border. We had a bucket list for buying a house and included walking distance to a town centre, pub, restaurant, take away , supermarket, bus or rail station and close by walk to exercise our dog. Our house offered a location that ticked ALL the boxes and gave us a character (Victorian) home that was comfortable and spacious that was arranged over 4 floors. Now that the children has left home and we reached retirement we thought about downsizing but realised that the accommodation configuration of the house, that we had developed as a family home, lent itself readily to holiday self catering in a very popular market town. Of course the original bucket list provided the location, location, location which our visitors would find not only convenient but would also experience a bit of discovery, adventure and learning from straight outside the front door

Discover locally-produced food, great places to stay and fantastic scenery – the beautiful Black Mountains are the backdrop to Abergavenny in the south east corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The town is a great base for walking, cycling and just enjoying the great outdoors. With its annual Abergavenny Food Festival, the town is also mecca for foodies – and there are plenty of gorgeous gastro pubs, ancient inns and restaurants to try in the surrounding countryside too. The town has regular markets where you can buy quality produce grown locally too. Abergavenny has history and heritage in spades – come and explore our castles, medieval mansions, Roman remains and standing stones. We’ve got the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal on our doorstep and the Blaenavon World Heritage and Big Pit mine are just up the road.
