At the moment Feb 2024 our camellias are exploding into colour. A great opportunity at the moment to walk around our beautiful 5 acres, using all the paths around the house. Camellia Walk 1 and Camellia Walk 2 are currently stunning. Known locally as Castle Crag it was built by engineer George Harris at the turn of the 19th Century purportedly taking 6 years to complete. The story about this very mini castle is, he wanted to marry a girl and she said she would only marry him if he built her a castle! We don't know if this is true or not, but it would explain the tower and the castellations. It was used to station officers during WWII and we know that land girls were also here at some point, because a friends mum told us she was one of them. We did a complete restoration of the building. I also decided not to buy new furniture or light fittings, in fact all the furniture either comes from our old house or was sourced second hand. We are surrounded by nature within the 5 acres. With woodpeckers, owls, pheasants and all manor of garden and woodland birds. It really is a magical place, exuding calm and serenity. The perfect location to get away from it all. Space to house surfboards. Super Fast Fibre broadband.

I used to work on the local BBC South West news programme Spotlight as a presenter. Having left the BBC South West I then freelanced for over a decade with BBC South Today based in Southampton and as a corporate presenter. We moved to Hampshire and we moved back down to Cornwall having completely renovated The Crag in 2021. As a journalist I love hearing peoples stories but I'm also very happy to just be in the background.

We are just a mile from the market town of Wadebridge. One of the earliest recorded mentions of the town was in 1313 when a market and two fairs were granted to Wade, given the name as people used to wade through the water at low tide to cross the river. At this time the town was in two parishes, Egloshayle and St Breock, (we are the St Breock side) either side of the river Camel. When the medieval bridge was built in 1478 connecting the two, the town became know as Wadebridge. Many people come to Wadebridge to cycle/walk the Camel Trail to Padstow. A distance of 6 miles, the path runs alongside the river Camel. There are also some lovely restaurants here including The Tiny Thai and The Stepping Stone, two of my favourites. There are many restaurants around us including those owned by the likes of Nathan Outlaw, Paul Ainsworth and Rick Stein. This area is a foodies paradise. North Cornwall is known for it's Atlantic waves and we are a short drive from Polzeath, Constantine, Daymer, Harlyn and Treyarnon beaches, where I've been known to swim even in January! There are several golf courses very close by, the championship course St Enodoc and The Point near Polzeath.
