Set in a remote, rural location approximately 2 miles along a rough, rocky but maintained farm track, it offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and general exploring.

In the local village is Dundrenann Abbey. A ruined Cistercian abbey where Mary Queen of Scots spent her last night in Scotland before being imprisoned in the Tower of London. The village also has a small tea room in the former village pub (check for seasonal opening hours). The Artists town of Kirkcudbright is a short drive away. Here you will find many interesting independent shops and art galleries hidden along its narrow closes. Broughton House and Garden, a National Trust for Scotland property are well worth a visit. For the young at heart Cream O'Galloway is within a 25-minute drive, not only do they produce organic ice cream and cheese with milk from their own dairy herd, but have several nature walks, and offer various cheese and ice cream making workshops throughout the year. Slightly further afield in Twynholm is The Cocoa Bean Factory where children can participate in chocolate workshops, there are also indoor & outdoor play areas. (The hot chocolate is a must!) For the more adventurous Loch Ken Activity Centre offer land and water-based activities.
