Agnew Park is fantastic for kids, so much to do with the park, wee train ride, pedal go karts and water/pirate ship play area. There is a cafe/restaurant there too.
Stranraer is a lovely wee town to walk about, with a good few shops.

I didn’t enjoy my time there…but I only stayed one night, and it was raining, so…..
The town looks tired, and a typical Scottish seaside town on its decline, sadly.
We used it as a stop over before sailing to Northern Ireland. One night was enough!

We had booked 6 nights. 4 or 5 would have been enough to visit the area.
We visited lovely places and met local people who are really friendly and welcoming. We do love the area but next time we go we'll look for another type of accomodation, not a hotel, because the restaurants are quite expensive (even if of good quality) and airbnb would allow us to save at least the cost of one meal at the restaurant a day...

Stranraer is a town that sadly has not recovered from the ferries moving three miles down the coast and bypassing the town. The poverty is everywhere you turn. I did not feel safe in the town
We ate in the customs House as it was dog friendly, we had booked a table, but we were at the bar a full ten minutes before being acknowledged by a member of staff. In fairness to the three staff on they were doing there best but they were severely understaffed.

There are nice scenic spots to visit near / around Stranraer, such as Castle Kennedy gardens,
Port Logan, Logan House estate whose owner donated part of their gardens to become today’s Stranraer Logan Botanic Garden. You can also visit
Castle St John in the town centre, as well as the museum. You can even come to join us for African drumming fun every fortnightly Thursday ! I myself travel 3.5 hours every fortnight on Thursday to practise African drum with this group whose drumming standard is very very high ! Always great fun ! That’s why I am willing to travel 7 hours door to door for my drumming fun every two weeks !
And, although I bring my own home-cooked food here, I also eat at some nice bistros and cafes.

A small, interesting working town on the west bank of Loch Ryan, visited right at the beginning of the season. Henry's Bay House Restaurant is excellent for food and the Ryan Centre has a swimming pool as well as a theatre/cinema with a good programme. There is a great view of the loch and Stranraer is ideally situated for exploring all of Dumfries and Galloway. The people are very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
Room was beautifully clean and fresh - even from the hallway it smelt fresh! Really easy check-in process, staff were super friendly towards our dog, and lovely well-lit park & seaside promenade walk across the road for a stroll after a long drive. Great location only 10-15mins drive from Cairnryan ferry ports, but surprisingly not too much freight truck noise overnight (as we've experienced near other ports).
Apartment was more spacious than I had expected. Clean, tidy and full of all that I would need for a short stay. The inclusion of an air fryer was really helpful. Each apartment also has a guide for local landmarks and places to visit, and recommendations for nearby restaurants and bars. Staff were very welcoming and polite.
The suite is more than big enough, with a panoramic, well sealed window, making it near silent. Complimentary whiskey was a welcome surprise, and the proprietor we met is a true gentleman. The Harbour Lights is 5 minutes from the ferry terminal, and staying there made our voyage a stress free experience.
Perfect peaceful tranquil location. Near to local amenities. Just perfect. Ian and Kay were lovely hosts. Very hospitable. We will go back. We had a lovely time.
