We had an exceptional stay at Killean Farmhouse. It is a short drive out of Inverary but feels beautifully remote. The room was the nicest we stayed in during our trip in Scotland, very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast in the morning was great with a very nice porridge. The team running it were very warm and helpful. We loved it.

Main place I visited was Benmore Botanical Gardens - lots to explore and the rhododendrons and azaleas in May are spectacular. No cafe now sadly but a short trip away in Blairmore there is a cafe run by the lady who used to run the cafe at Benmore - didn't manage to visit it this time but was recommended to me. I stayed at the Creggans Inn and mainly ate there - excellent place to stay or visit for a meal - food was superb and a good base for exploring the area. Roads well maintained and easy to get round - visited Inverary Castle on the other side of the loch. Again superb gardens and the castle itself is stunning well worth visiting. The town itself also very picturesque. On the way to Inverary there is the Loch Fyne Restaurant and Tree shop garden centre and cafe - well worth a visit and picked up some beautiful rhododendrons at the tree shop. Nearby there is also a local farm brewery Fyne Ales - it has a shop and taproom where you can sample their ales and buy them or have a coffee and cake ! The weather was a bit patchy - usually it is fine in May but nonetheless a superb place to visit.

Excellent views of the loch in a quiet location.
Excellent views of the loch in a quiet location. Start the day with a breakfast of scrambled egg and smoked salmon then if not going anywhere stroll around the garden. In the evening after dinner, take a moment at the large picture windows and view the sunset.

Friendly reception and easy quick check in.
Friendly reception and easy quick check in.
The bedroom was reasonably comfortable with a bathroom which could possibly benefit from some modernisation.
The confirmation of my reservation via Booking.com clearly stated: "Double Room with Garden View".
There was NO garden view! The view was of a rough area of gravel and a minor road.
I queried this fact with the hotel and I was informed that they had reported this discrepancy in the room description to Booking .com on a number of separate occasions.
The evening meal was excellent.
Breakfast, in wonderful sunshine with a nice view from the large windows of the delightful dining room, was very good.

Fabulous Inn modern but maintains integrity of the original building. Views are absolutely amazing..food is always excellent and sourced locally such as scallops from Loch Fyne. Near to some wonderful off the beaten track drives, an arboretum and beautiful hills and countryside as well as Invarary and its wonderful castle. Glasgow is under 2 hours drive including a lovely short ferry trip. It truly is at the gateway to Scotland.
The location was stunning, on the banks of Loch Fyne. The hotel itself is small and friendly, with a nice atmosphere. We ate dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent, and breakfast included some really nice options like Loch Fyne kippers, porridge and apricots in honey and spices (which were amazing!). The room we booked had a lovely seating area to relax in, and the robes and slippers were a really nice touch. The bathroom included a lovely deep bath to soak in.
charming hotel with great sea view and with
potential but in urgent need of
renovation. furniture is due for replacement.
stains on the carpets and seating area which
gave me the impression that it was not always
as clean as it should be. staff was friendly.
breakfast was great. had dinner twice: first time
really disappointing and second time ok (burger).
room was big enough (had a superior room), bed
and shower were good.
Lovely hotel with old world charm, beautifully appointed rooms with a huge bathroom which had both a shower and a bath.
The restaurant menu was really good and the food was cooked to perfection, The best scallops I have ever tasted.
The breakfast menu had a great choice and I can definitely recommend the Loch Fyne Kippers.
The staff were really friendly ..... a really lovely hotel.
Scenery, wildlife and fresh air. Forest walks at Glenbranter, Pucks Glen, hill monument at Inveraray Castle, Benmore Botanic Gardens, Creggans Inn, Whistlefield Inn, George Hotel, Loch Fyne Brewery, Quadmania near Dunoon, kayaking Carrick Castle Farm at Lochgoilhead, worth pre-booking activities in peak season as some others were full , shore sea loch fishing right on doorstep etc.
We were landing late and they were so helpful from the start and stayed up to let us in. Hotel is spotless, staff are lovely and helpful. Rooms are good size with fresh decor albeit slightly dated but that didn’t matter. Food was delicious and service great. Location was amazing with a view across the loch and walks from the doorstep.
Service was very good. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good, as was the evening meal. We didn’t explore the hotel, perhaps we should have ventured into the lounge areas to justify the cost compared to other hotels we stayed in on this holiday! Our room was a bit tired, but perfectly clean and comfortable.
The room was lovely the food was bad a la Carte prices for very poor food I know it’s tough opening up the dining area was shabby I stayed here before and it was good but this wasn’t a good experience not a way to make people come back - the hotel can’t Blair Covid as others are doing food well
The hotel was beautifully clean and very comfortable with nice light communal seating areas. All food was very tasty and nicely prepared. Staff were lovely - very friendly and attentive. We felt well looked after.
lovely Loch Fyne facing room, lovely drawing room and other communal areas to make it cozy. good bar and restaurant that attracts walk-ins. super friendly staff in this family run hotel
Beautiful location at loch Fyne! A very beautiful, cosy hotel! Great food at dinner and breakfast. Staff were very kind. We love it to stay here on this beautiful location
wonderful location on the shore of Loch Fyne.
Excellent food both in the evening and at breakfast.
Brilliant atmosphere as Scotland were playing England in the euros.
