Kalamaki is a great place to stay for families. There is a wide range of fabulous restaurants and a lovely beach all in walking distance. Also be sure to spend an evening on the old road where you have wonderful bars like the Island bar and the Luna bar etc. Not to mention the hidden ones like the Cave bar etc. You can conveniently get to town via bus or the fun train. If you fancy a day out seeing the island etc then Nefis travel always have you covered. As for the people they are warm and welcoming and always super friendly. Very few real Taverners - Best prices and food can be found around the outer areas of the sea front.
