Anand Kanan - a place to learn about Hinduism, Buddhism and Indian Culture, is situated in the heart of the Old City. The house was built by a Bengali family in 1929 as their spiritual retreat in Kashi. The exterior of the building carries the character of the Àrt Deco era. The interior has been lovingly updated and awaits to be your sanctuary whilst you stay in Kashi. Anand Kanan is situated within the alleyways (close to the main ghat) and any vehicle comes upto Jangamwadi Muth only, which is 250 meters away and involves 5 min walk. Anand Kanan is for THOSE who want to feel the pulse of Varanasi, get lost in its numerous narrow lanes, listen to music and mantras while walking, enjoy local food, walk to ghats, temples and bazar, and experience the spiritual serenity of Mother Ganges at any time of day/night. With modest facilities and comfort, this is the best place to explore and experience the holiest of holy cities of Hindus. Anand Kanan offers complimentary lessons on Hinduism, Buddhism, ShaiviteTantrik darshan and Indian spiritual traditions for those who are interested. Note- Anand Kanan takes last check in by 10 PM.
Dr. Arvind Singh, formerly a Fellow of Indian Council of Historical Research, is an erudite scholar of Indian religions (Hinduism and Buddhism) and Indian Culture with speciality on Varanasi and its Shaivite spiritual tradition. Widely traveled across the globe, he has been sharing his knowledge on Indian religions, culture and spirituality over two and half decades. Dr. Singh is always available to the guests happily sharing his enthusiasm, knowledge and love for India and Indology.
