FAQs about hotels in Verona

A Shakespearean Fairytale

A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.

Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.

Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.

The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.

Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

Beautiful City full of historic buildings, beautiful churches and monuments, a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants. Verona is also a perfect base for visiting nearby Lake Garda, all of which make it a perfect city break destination and less than 2 hours flight from London!

I do not recommend going in August- extremely hot (nearly 40 C), and just everyone had a suitcase. Also beware, most Italiens- apart from the ones working hotels or gastronomy- do not speak any other language at all.

Verona is one of the most beautiful towns you will visit. Stay away from Casa de Guilietta if you can and take in the rest of the town, the castle, the arena, and its many wnderful eateries. The river is somewhat of a tourist attraction as well.

A city full of culture and architecture.

A city full of culture and architecture. I’ll never tire of Verona! So much to do and see. Also an ideal location to do day trips to other key Italian destinations such as lake Como, lake Garda, Milan and Venice. If you haven’t been I would strongly recommend it. Check what concert is on at the Arena, book a walking tour, go to the art gallery roof and see the Piazza del Erbe from the roof, visit the castle for views of the city, and go to vineyards to hear from the locals and of course experience the fantastic food Italy has to offer!
