Okawachiyama is a small pottery village located 3.5kms away from anything, Imari city, station, shops, convenient store or any supermaket. There are only few buses coming in and out and the last is around 16:30. Make sure you understand those facts at the time of your reservation. Welcome to our charming 100-year-old Komnka house, 180 m2 spread over 2 floors. The Guest Bedroom comes equipped with a double bed, a sofa, and a single bed, and it's connected to a Kitchenette, which you can use as your private extra space. When booking let us know if you are a couple or just friends for the bed setting arrangement. Here, you'll find a good-sized fridge, a microwave, and a coffee machine. Also your luggage storage during your stay. The only other occupants in the house will be the host, but you might also be on your own. Our place, known as "Basecamp Imari" (which is also the name of our cafe and lodge), is well-decorated and comfortable. As of now, our cafe on the first floor is open on Fridays, weekends, and national holidays from 10:30 to 16:00. Our establishment offers a cozy atmosphere where you can immerse yourself in the ambiance of a rural Japanese village. It's a place where tranquility reigns, with the gentle sound of wind chimes, a relaxing vibe, a sense of time slipping by, the peacefulness of the evening, and the soothing Sound of Silence. Nice sunsets and numerous picturesque walks right on the Lodge doorstep. There is also a small picnic garden, and a front terrace. Its location is the perfect hub to visit the region by rental car. Breakfast is NOT included. Rent a Car is HIGHLY recommended since there is very limited access to the village with buses and there are no shops at all, besides potteries.
I am French living in Japan for over 30 years, married to a Japanese person. Originally from Royan, near Bordeaux. I run my own business and have my place in Itoshima, near Fukuoka, about 40 mins drive to basecamp Imari, our self-renovated Kominka cafe and lodge in Okawachiyama, Saga prefecture. It takes 40 mins drive to welcome you at the check-in , so it is nice to know your arrival time. Likes guitar, movies, traveling, outdoors, sports, food and wine, photography, interiors, reform. I am usually present at check-in and check-out, and stay at basecamp during that time so that you know that the host MIGHT be there during your stay. Sharing the toilet and shower area only.
Okawachiyama, Village of the Secret Kilns. There's a treasure trove of beautiful places to explore within a 35 km radius, which is why we highly recommend renting a car to make the most of your visit. We recommend enjoying the local Onsen, which is about 3.5 km from the Lodge. Dinner is possible there too at the Onsen for a very reasonable price(recommended). The village is wonderfully tranquil and very scenic, it's worth noting that there are no shops, restaurants, or bars in the immediate vicinity. However, you can easily find these amenities in Imari City, which is just a short 4-kilometer drive away.
