Julian’s Pension offers a family-friendly, homey atmosphere, welcoming MTB'ers, hikers, outdoor and nature enthusiasts, as well as travelers seeking English-speaking accommodations in Yatsugatake. Guests stay in private bedrooms with shared toilets and showers, while communal spaces include a dining room, a cozy lounge with a wood stove, and an activity room for board games, arts and crafts, or unwinding with drinks. Outside, visitors can enjoy a bike wash/maintenance station, a garden, and a terrace with BBQ facilities. We serve hearty, home-cooked Western meals featuring vegetables and rice from our farm-to-table initiative. Breakfast is included, and dinner is available upon request. Our menu is continuously evolving to incorporate vegetarian and gluten-free options, and we do our best to accommodate food allergies—please let us know your dietary needs when booking. Guests also receive complimentary tickets to the local onsen, Shika no Yu, for a relaxing hot spring experience.
Julian and Katrina are world travelers with a deep love for nature and outdoor sports. Their dream is to put Fujimi—and the broader Yatsugatake region—on the map as a premier destination for outdoor adventure. As passionate mountain bikers, they hope to establish a network of trails in the surrounding forests. As the second owners of the pension, which they now call home, they encountered a property that had been uninhabited for several years and required extensive renovations. Julian has devoted a significant portion of his "leisure time" to the arduous task of restoring the pension. Most of the interior work has been, and will continue to be, handled by their family. Throughout your stay, you’ll notice tangible signs of their enthusiasm for woodworking, arts and crafts, and gardening. They love meeting new people and sharing their passion for the outdoors.
Yatsugatake is an emerging destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts and those looking to reconnect with nature, just a 2-3 hour drive from Tokyo. In summer, enjoy downhill biking at Fujimi Panorama MTB Park, trail riding, road cycling, high-altitude running, hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, horseback riding, and more. Winter brings skiing and snowboarding at Fujimi Kogen and Fujimi Panorama Ski Resorts, snowshoe trekking, stargazing, and other seasonal delights. Year-round, visitors can unwind in the area's many onsens, explore art galleries and museums, visit farmers' markets, and enjoy local cuisine. Fujimi is particularly famous for its Soba (Japanese buckwheat noodles), and at そば処 おっこと亭, you can even make your own. For those interested in history, the region has deep ties to Japan’s Jomon culture and the legendary Samurai Shingen Takeda.
