SOLA Guesthouse is a cozy and peaceful retreat located just a 5-minute walk from the sacred Kumano Hongu Taisha. Perfectly situated along the Nakahechi route of the Kumano Kodo, SOLA is an ideal stop for pilgrims walking Kogumotori-goe or Ogumotori-goe—two of the most scenic and challenging trails of the World Heritage pilgrimage path. For those who cannot find accommodation in the Koguchi area, SOLA offers a wonderful alternative with easy access and comfortable facilities. Whether you're beginning your hike or recovering after a long day on the trail, our guesthouse provides a relaxing space to recharge both body and mind. What makes SOLA truly unique is that staying guests have the exclusive opportunity to receive authentic Japanese acupuncture treatments from a licensed and experienced acupuncturist. Our guesthouse also features meal-inclusive plans that support your wellness journey. Enjoy a dinner and lunchbox set—perfect for early-morning departures or long hiking days. We happily accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-friendly diets with advance notice, so you can eat with peace of mind. Each room is simple yet comfortable, designed to offer rest and peace after your spiritual or physical journey. The atmosphere is warm, and while we are not fluent in English, we welcome every guest with sincerity and heartfelt hospitality. Welcome to SOLA Guesthouse, your peaceful home away from home in the sacred land of Kumano. Our host is a licensed Japanese acupuncturist who offers authentic traditional Japanese acupuncture treatments exclusively to staying guests. With extensive experience and deep knowledge of holistic healing, our host has helped many guests recover from fatigue, muscle pain, and hiking-related discomfort. Whether you're walking the Kumano Kodo or simply looking to relax, you are in expert hands. While the host is not fluent in English, you will be warmly welcomed by a dedicated and kind-hearted professional who truly cares about your comfort and experience. With patience and sincere hospitality, the host does their best to support every guest with thoughtful care and attention. From arrival to departure, you’ll feel genuinely cared for. We understand that finding accommodation in the Koguchi area can be difficult, especially during busy seasons. SOLA is located in Hongu, a perfect alternative with easy access to both Kogumotori-goe and Ogumotori-goe, the most iconic parts of the Kumano Kodo. Whether you are starting your journey here or resting after a long hike, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere, nourishing meals, and healing care. At SOLA, we believe that true hospitality is found in small yet meaningful experiences – the spiritual energy of this sacred land, the breathtaking stars in the night sky, and meals prepared with care for vegetarians and guests with allergies. We are here to help make your Kumano journey a deeply memorable one.
SOLA Guesthouse is perfectly located in the heart of Hongu, just a short walk from some of the most important spiritual and practical points along the Kumano Kodo. Whether you're looking for sacred sites, local conveniences, or relaxing hot springs, everything is within reach. Only 5 minutes on foot brings you to the majestic Kumano Hongu Taisha, one of the Three Grand Shrines of Kumano and a key destination on the World Heritage pilgrimage route. Oyunohara, the original site of the shrine with its towering torii gate, is also just steps away. The area is rich in spiritual energy, making it an ideal place to pause and reflect. For pilgrims and hikers, Oyunohara Mae Bus Stop is only 2 minutes on foot, and Hongu Taisha-mae Bus Stop is 5 minutes away, offering easy access to trailheads and other towns along the route. Need to stock up on food or drinks? A mini supermarket is just 3 minutes on foot, convenient for all your daily needs. You'll also find cafes, local restaurants, and small shops in the area, allowing you to experience the charm of a quiet, authentic Japanese village. For a rejuvenating soak after a long hike, three famous hot springs—Kawayu Onsen, Wataze Onsen, and Yunomine Onsen—are just a short drive away. We can help with transportation to some of these spots upon request. Situated along the Nakahechi route, SOLA is at a natural halfway point for those hiking through the Kumano Kodo. It’s a perfect location to rest, reflect, and prepare for the next leg of your spiritual adventure.
